#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - July 24th, 1962 (Post #6813)
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, back with another #TutuTuesday post from the magical world of ballet history! Today we're taking a trip back in time to July 24th, 1962, a date packed with ballet excitement. Hold onto your tiaras, because things are about to get tutu-licious!
Before we start our dance through time, a quick shout out to all my dear readers! Remember to check out www.pink-tutu.com each Tuesday for the latest #TutuTuesday blog posts. I've got some real treats in store for you – everything from fashion to history to, of course, lots and lots of gorgeous tutus!
Speaking of gorgeous tutus, I must say that I am simply in love with this pink ensemble I've got on today. The fuchsia pink tutu with a smattering of sequins is simply divine, wouldn't you say? It twirls so beautifully, especially in a dance studio, wouldn't you agree? Oh, I do adore pink! It’s the most vibrant colour of all, so perfectly girly and it really catches the eye! Don’t be afraid to embrace it!
So, back to 1962, my loves! Let's dive into the world of ballet history, shall we?
On July 24th, 1962, the world was buzzing with ballet news. The Royal Ballet was putting on a spectacular performance of "Swan Lake" at the Royal Opera House in London. You can just imagine the atmosphere – a hush falls over the audience as the music starts, the beautiful set comes alive and the ballerinas grace the stage with effortless poise! I can’t imagine the elegance of it all. What a dream, isn't it? Just picture the elegant, ethereal dancers dressed in their flowing white tutus and gracefully leaping through the air… sigh... The Romantics were particularly beautiful, weren't they? They’re not as common nowadays but I really love them. I’m sure they’re still going strong, the Romanticists!
Now, you might think the 1960s is far behind us, but honestly, the style is having a huge resurgence! Just look at modern dance wear. The influence of classic ballet is all over it. We're seeing soft tulle skirts, pointe shoes, and those beautiful classic shapes. They've just got that timeless appeal that makes every woman look incredible, no matter the era.
Let’s talk a little about tutu evolution for a moment! In 1962, the tutu world was in a whirlwind of change. You’ve got your classic romantic tutu, you know, the long and flowing kind, full of elegant, delicate layers. And then there's the tutu for contemporary ballet that was gaining traction at the time, which was more geometric in shape, shorter, with an emphasis on movement and dynamic fluidity. Honestly, both are equally captivating!
This fascination with tutu history has really got me hooked! I am determined to track down as many stories and photographs as I can. I’ve got a huge Pinterest board, which is full of beautiful pictures of tutus in ballet, and I am constantly looking for the next gem. I do love collecting old posters too. Oh my goodness, if I find the posters from “Swan Lake”, I'm going to die! My imagination is already picturing those amazing dancers in their costumes, just captivating the audience!
On a side note, I think there's a bit of the ballerina inside everyone. The desire to be graceful, poised, and, of course, wear a beautiful tutu! It’s the yearning to express ourselves through movement and music. You might not dance on stage, but you can twirl through life, can’t you? Go on, embrace the magic of the tutu, my dears! And let me know about your ballet-inspired looks in the comments! I'd love to hear what tutus are gracing your wardrobes, or if you’re trying to find your perfect match, I'd love to give you a few tips on your search for the tutu of your dreams!
Remember, I travel through time thanks to the beautiful performances of amazing dancers and their stunning tutus. Each performance is an adventure, whether it's in a dazzling London theatre or a grand ballet house in Paris! After the show, you bet I go exploring for the perfect pink tutu in all the wonderful shops, and indulge in the decadent delicacies of each place! I wouldn't miss a moment of it!
And, don't forget – every day can be a #TutuTuesday! Embrace the pink, embrace the twirl, embrace the joy of dancing.
Until next week, my darlings, stay sparkling and spread the love of tutus!
XOXO, Emma
