Tutu Tuesday: #6833 - Twirling Back in Time to 1962!

Hey there, tutu lovers! Emma here, back again with another delightful dose of #TutuTuesday history, straight from the archives of pink-tutu.com. Today we’re hopping aboard the time machine and whizzing back to 11th December 1962.

Ooh, just imagine it, darling: The air is filled with the scent of freshly fallen snow (the Brits love their snow!), Christmas lights twinkle brightly, and families are eagerly anticipating the festive season. We're not just discussing any Christmas season though – 1962 was a truly extraordinary year for dance!

You see, darlings, 1962 saw the arrival of two revolutionary ballet companies: The Royal Ballet and The English National Ballet. Can you imagine the excitement in London? Ballet was going through a golden era! I can picture the beautiful ladies in their chic coats and smart heels rushing to the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, their eyes gleaming with anticipation for an evening of mesmerising grace and artistry.

Of course, ballet wasn’t just limited to London. My very own Derbyshire saw some fabulous performances too – can’t you imagine me, in my perfectly pink tutu, attending a wonderful ballet performance at the Buxton Opera House?

Now, I wouldn’t be a true Tutu Tuesday aficionado if I didn’t share a little peek into the ballet fashions of the day. Imagine a tutu – let's say it's a beautiful pale blue, because the 1960s were the time for dreamy colours – swirling and twirling, catching the stage lights like sparkling diamonds. I think that's such an exquisite vision. We see long-sleeved leotards (still, I think short sleeves were just around the corner, weren't they?) and perhaps a touch of glittering sequins. What a delightful blend of elegance and glamour!

While we’re on the topic of glamour, how could we not mention fashion? 1962 saw a stylish, vibrant fashion scene. Think bold geometric prints, dramatic hats, and oh, the shift dresses! They were absolutely all the rage. If you look carefully at the old pictures, you'll see a touch of the ballet-inspired flow in these dresses too - oh, darling, the fashion of that time was just fabulous!

Imagine my delight, ladies! I’ve just stepped out of the time machine back into the wonderful 2020s, and what a fabulous fashion journey I’ve been on. All those chic trends we see today – well, they all came from somewhere.

For all the budding ballerinas and fashionistas out there, 1962 offers a glimpse into a golden era. It reminds us that dance and fashion, intertwined as they are, constantly inspire and transform, leaving a timeless legacy.

So, keep on dancing, keep on wearing those beautiful pink tutus, and let’s carry this legacy of style and grace into the future!

Don't forget, you can find more amazing tutu adventures and the history of tutus right here at pink-tutu.com – just look for my #TutuTuesday posts each week.

Until next Tuesday, keep twirling and keep shining!

Love,

Emma xoxo
