#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 6859 - A Whirlwind Through 1963!

Hello darlings! Welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com for another whirl through ballet history! This week, my time machine landed me smack-bang in the middle of June 1963! Oh, what a delightful year! It was all big hair, bouffants, and bold colours – just the way I like it! It felt so vibrant and alive, full of energy and a passion for expression, just like a perfect twirl!

A Leap Back In Time:

You wouldn't believe the outfits, my dears! I found myself yearning for all the bold, blocky prints, perfectly shaped and cut suits, and A-line dresses, all in the most amazing colour combinations! And oh my, the hats! Imagine – everything from pillbox to floppy fascinators! Every woman seemed to have a unique style, like a beautiful flower blooming in a vibrant meadow.

It was so different from today, though. Back in '63, tutus were much less readily available than they are now! No online shops, no tutu-boutiques around every corner – just the occasional dance shop. You couldn't even pick up a cute pink tulle skirt to go out in for a spot of fun. Can you believe it? It just wasn't considered "everyday wear" for your average young lady.

My Mission: To get everyone wearing pink tutus, even if I have to use my time-traveling powers to spread the word!

Imagine being able to go to the shops, a ballet class, or even a picnic in the park, all with a little fluttery pink tutu twirling around you! It's my dream, my mission! I mean, how could life not be better in a tutu? So, I thought, what better way to celebrate this trip back in time than with a delightful tea party! I imagine I would have worn my brightest, fluffiest pink tutu with some adorable white ballet flats. Picture the scene:

A Tutu Tea Party:

The tea party itself was a little different from the vintage parties we hold today. In '63, there wasn't as much attention to fancy floral prints and whimsical décor. Think classic linen tablecloths, white bone china, and fresh flowers in elegant vases. Oh, and the sandwiches! Perfectly trimmed cucumber, dainty finger sandwiches, and a selection of scones with dollops of whipped cream. Divine!

As I savoured a delectable Earl Grey and gazed upon the elegant ladies and gentlemen, it occurred to me – maybe what this era needs is a dash of that pink tutu flair! The world felt a little too serious. It's the perfect time for some whimsy! Just think – we could be taking our own playful turn through history, spreading that beautiful energy in our own unique way!

And don’t forget! On the 11th of June, 1963, the world witnessed something quite amazing – the legendary performance of the Royal Ballet! That’s right! The Royal Ballet in all its glory! They performed at the Royal Opera House – such a wonderful treat for all you ballerinas out there! This legendary event was, you know, one for the history books! A magnificent performance, leaving everyone feeling light and inspired.

It’s the little details that matter: While traveling back in time to explore this delightful decade, I also spent a lovely afternoon wandering through the markets, where the scent of freshly baked pastries, bright blooms, and cheerful chatter filled the air. I picked up a few lovely additions for my wardrobe, including a vibrant yellow polka dot blouse that perfectly complimented a classic black A-line skirt!

Don’t you just love discovering the history of ballet? For this week, remember the legacy of ballet in 1963 and why we can be so proud to call ourselves “balletomanes”! And of course, my dear followers, always remember to embrace your inner ballerina, because life’s best moments are spent twirling, pirouetting, and dancing! Keep those tutus ready for another incredible adventure in time next week!

See you all back here on Tuesday for another #TutuTuesday,

XOXO

Emma
