TutuTuesday: #6867 - 1963 - A Dance of Progress
Hello darlings! It’s your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, here, ready to whisk you back in time to the wonderfully elegant year of 1963! This Tuesday’s #TutuTuesday takes us right to the heart of a year that was bubbling with change, style, and – you guessed it! – Tutus!
Imagine a world where Jackie Kennedy was setting the fashion scene, the Beatles were just making their debut, and we were all still in love with the delicate grace of ballet! Oh, the joy of those early 60s!
Now, let's dive into this date - 6th August 1963 – and explore the magical world of ballet, fashion and tutus from this exciting era!
Firstly, a quick peek at my outfit for today! Imagine a beautiful, frothy pink tulle tutu, spun like the finest gossamer, cascading around me in all its delicate loveliness. A simple white top, with puffed sleeves and a pretty little bow, accentuates my waistline and lets the tutu take centre stage. And on my feet? Why, my lovely, bright pink ballet slippers of course! Just like every ballerina worth her salt, I simply cannot resist a matching ensemble, and for me, that's the glorious pink colour. Oh, pink is my happy colour – what can I say?!
Anyway, back to 1963... This day, on the 6th of August, a brilliant ballet masterpiece titled "Giselle" took centre stage at the Sadler's Wells Theatre in London! The perfect performance for this time traveller! Oh, I adore this particular ballet! The romantic story, the elegant costumes, the exquisite choreography – I could watch it a thousand times over! It’s a must for any self-respecting ballet lover.
Speaking of the costumes in "Giselle"... Ah, my love for tutus knows no bounds. In 1963, tutus had that perfect blend of elegance and fluidity. They were shorter and more airy than their predecessors, showcasing the ballerinas’ lithe movements with even greater beauty. Imagine delicate layers of tulle, floating as gracefully as the ballerinas themselves – oh, a delight to behold!
Of course, fashion back in 1963 was something to admire! Think classic lines, neat and elegant silhouettes, and playful use of colour and print. A time for strong shoulders, nipped-in waists and the emergence of the ‘mod’ look. It’s amazing to see how fashion history is all interwoven – with every movement in the world, we find shifts in clothing and the way people wear things!
As I mentioned earlier, my time travelling adventures are all about bringing ballet and fashion together! That's how I afford to hop through time! Each time I travel, I put on a captivating performance with a little pink tutu twist! Think classic routines, but with a dash of pink and an air of contemporary charm. And my dear, let me tell you, the crowds absolutely adore it!
You know, after years of journeying, one thing I’ve learnt is that ballet really is a universal language. From 1963 to today, a pirouette is still a pirouette! It's captivating regardless of time.
As always, I can’t wait to see you next Tuesday for more historical ballet shenanigans. In the meantime, embrace your inner ballerina, twirl like there's no tomorrow, and maybe – just maybe – even consider dipping your toes into the beautiful, bright pink world of a tutu!
Until then, stay fabulous!
Love, Emma
