#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: November 5th 1963 - A Twirling Blast from the Past!

*Welcome back to my lovely pink tutu loving readers! It's #TutuTuesday once again and I am absolutely bursting with excitement to share today's post! I'm in Paris, of course - where else? My latest time-hopping adventures have led me to the enchanting city of lights, with a date that’s etched in history – 5th November 1963. Now, I wouldn't be me if I didn’t start by taking you on a little trip to a Parisian shop. *

Oh, darling, let me tell you - fashion here in Paris in 1963 is divine! I have fallen in love with the full skirts, elegant lines, and delightful prints. The boutiques are a visual feast, and I just know you will love these chic silhouettes too. They've even started bringing in a little colour, imagine that! (Don't get me wrong, I'm a staunch believer in the power of pink, but there's room for a touch of vibrant hues in any fashion-forward woman's wardrobe!)

Today, I stumbled upon the most incredible tulle at the "Aux Belles Soeurs" shop. The soft, fine mesh, delicate colours - they just scream tutu! Of course, I had to get a generous amount to whip up a few creations. Can't wait to show you my designs on the blog next week, darling!

Now, enough about clothes! Let's travel back in time to that momentous day. November 5th, 1963. For you history buffs, this is the day President John F. Kennedy was tragically shot and killed. It was a time of great sorrow and shock for the world. Even in Paris, the news cast a sombre shadow. But you know me, I like to focus on the lighter side. So what did I do? Well, I did what any right-minded fashionista would: I went to the theatre, of course!

I found myself at the magnificent Palais Garnier. It's so utterly stunning! With its ornate gilded decorations, grand staircases, and that breathtaking chandelier... oh my, darling, it took my breath away. Just picture a ballet dancer in a pink tutu gliding across the stage in front of such exquisite beauty, and you'll understand the magic I witnessed that evening. The programme featured “La Source”, a classic ballet with a lovely, light and graceful narrative, so fitting for a Paris evening.

Now, ballet wasn't the only entertainment to be found in 1963 Paris. We had some incredible theatre productions on stage, including a brand new show "Boeing Boeing", which, I am told, is a hilarious satire of Parisian life. Imagine, a play set in a Parisian flat, packed with laughter and misadventures – sounds positively divine!

But of course, being here in Paris would not be complete without some indulgence in the delightful cuisine. Imagine enjoying the creamiest croissants while sipping coffee in a sunlit cafe, the delicious smells of French bread baking in a boulangerie – heavenly! The flavours and aromas of 1963 Paris were as enticing as its beautiful sights and sounds. I’ve found it very difficult to drag myself away, even to continue my blog post!

Now, let's take a step back from Paris. Imagine me on a long journey on a sleeper train. Oh, the romanticism! Picture those cozy little cabins, the clatter of the tracks, the friendly chatter, the occasional view of rolling hills and winding countryside - just delightful. If only the journey took me back to my own time a little quicker.

So, darlings, what have I learnt on my latest trip? I’ve seen the joy, the laughter, and the creativity in the art of ballet and theatre. Even with events that may cast a shadow, we should always appreciate the good times and the light in life, just like a shining, delicate tutu against a dusky twilight sky. Now, as I’m signing off this week’s #TutuTuesday blog, remember what I say - a pink tutu and a good attitude can really change your day!

Oh! And before I forget, don’t forget to visit the www.pink-tutu.com website this coming Thursday. You can find an updated tutorial for this week's new ballet tutu creation using that delicious Parisian tulle! See you then darlings, and don’t forget to stay beautiful and sparkly!

Until next Tuesday! Emma xoxo
