Tutu Tuesday: The Magic of the Ballet! (Blog Post #6882)
Ahoy, lovelies! Itās your favourite pink-loving ballerina blogger, Emma, here, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! Iām so thrilled you've joined me for another #TutuTuesday journey through the fascinating world of ballet. Today, weāre travelling back in time, way back to 19th November 1963, to the heart ofā¦ oh, Iām just teasing! Letās keep it a secret. But let me tell you, the ballet scene back then was utterly dazzling!
Before we delve into our Tutu Timewarp, a quick peek at whatās happening today, back in the future (because we all know my little trips in my enchanted time-travelling tutus mean I'm always hopping between eras!). Right now, my lovelies, the world of ballet is buzzing with excitement! I'm so excited about the Royal Opera House's production of Swan Lake - oh the drama, the music, the graceful choreography! They've also got a fabulous display of tutus at the Victoria and Albert Museum right now - they call it "Fashion in Motion: Ballet and Beyond". Absolutely must see that!
I must also mention Ballet Streetās incredible "Nutcracker" show - a true masterpiece, donāt miss it if you can! I canāt wait to see it myself, and of course, wear my very best pink tutu for the occasion! And who doesnāt love a trip to the Theatre Royal to watch a magical performance under the stunning chandeliers, accompanied by delicious chocolate? A truly blissful evening!
But now, darling dears, let's fasten our pink ribbons and prepare to whirl through time!
Our Journey to 19th November 1963
Hold on tight, my little twirling lovelies! It's 19th November 1963 and oh my word, fashion is bursting with colour and creativity! This time period, my dears, was simply divine for tutus! You wouldnāt believe the abundance of stunning designs in full bloom: frills, bows, layers, oh the loveliness! It's an era overflowing with bold and breathtaking colours!
Letās talk tutus. I'm completely enamoured with the classic white, pink, and lilac colours, but darling, donāt underestimate the power of abright yellow or fiery red tutu! And let's not forget about sparkly tulle - shimmering, reflecting the stage lights...just glorious!
Did you know the legendary Margot Fonteyn was gracing stages in this year with her mesmerising dances? Iām obsessed with her, her moves, her tutus... oh! And you won't believe this, but Rudolf Nureyev, oh such a handsome gentleman! He had the whole world swooning over his dancing! Imagine having the opportunity to watch them both on stage! My little heart would flutter.
As a ballerina, shopping for tutus in this time period would have been a pure joy! From* Parisian designers creating elaborate custom creations, to *local boutiques bustling with the latest trends, every dance store was a wonderland. Imagine strolling down a bustling Parisian boulevard, picking out a bespoke pink tutu that complements your beautiful new ruby red pumps, perfectly adorned with sparkling rhinestones, of course!
I just know my friends would've said: āEmma, youāll look absolutely enchanting! You are practically radiating pure tutus!ā
Now, my little dears, while tutus were everywhere on the stages, they also took on a new level of importance off stage, thanks to the blossoming youth culture of the early 60s. This generation of young people - oh, they just oozed fun, freedom, and fashion! It was the era of āthe Mod sceneā, a mix of fashion influences. And oh, you just knew the ladies in the Mod scene adored tutus! You see them in photos from the time, they wore them as casual street fashion - at parties, gigs, at festivals - it was revolutionary! I just love this whole whimsical, rebellious, fun vibe. They looked sensational in tutus! And we know those fantastic colourful colours looked spectacular!
It wasn't just about looking beautiful, though. This new tutu trend reflected a sense of liberation and fun in these ladies - their way of showing their personality. And in that sense, my dears, there is truly nothing better than wearing a beautiful tutu - it allows you to be as bold and brilliant as you feel!
But the fun doesnāt stop at the tutus, you know! Fashion, darling, is full of surprises back in 1963! The colours were truly incredible! Think of the deep rich oranges, blues, and greens they wore, coupled with amazing fabrics like suede, silk, and velvet! I must get my hands on a piece of vintage suede and some silk! Now that's a thought!
So what were some other amazing events that occurred on the 19th of November, 1963? Ah, a little tidbit of history - on this very day President John F. Kennedy of the United States made a speech on national television, a fascinating and dramatic period. I must read more about him, a true gentleman!
