#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Ballet History – June 23rd 1964!

Hello my lovelies! It’s Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina, back for another fabulous #TutuTuesday. Welcome to my humble corner of the internet, www.pink-tutu.com, where we celebrate all things tutu, from the historic to the fabulous, the delicate to the daring.

Today we’re taking a trip back to June 23rd 1964, a time when the world was just starting to feel the full swing of the “swinging sixties”. The air was filled with the sounds of the Beatles, everyone was rocking mini-skirts, and I can just imagine myself gliding through the streets, a cloud of pink tulle trailing behind. Oh, wouldn’t that be a sight?!

The Parisian Muse

Speaking of sights, the centre of the tutu-verse back then was of course, Paris! The City of Lights was buzzing with dance performances, and the ballerinas, oh, the ballerinas, they were just as fabulous as the city itself! Picture wispy tulle skirts, perfect pointe shoes, and all those stunning costumes shimmering under the stage lights. My heart flutters just thinking about it.

Now, let's travel back to 1964, the year when my heartstrings really got pulled into the world of dance. A brand-new ballet company, "Le ThĂ©Ăątre National de l’OpĂ©ra Comique" was founded, and the theatre world, let’s be honest, went bonkers! This exciting event brought the French ballet scene right into the spotlight.

This date also marks the start of a big celebration, The Paris International Fair, running all through June. Imagine, a whole month of exhibits and activities showcasing everything the world had to offer! I can only picture myself waltzing amongst all the artistic marvels, making new friends, and of course, taking notes for my next #TutuTuesday post.

Ballet Dreams:

Back in 1964, ballerinas weren’t just stars on stage. They were role models! Every girl who wore a tutu, or dreamt of twirling in one, saw themselves a little bit as these talented and graceful artists.

And it’s not just about the ballet; the whole atmosphere in 1964 was incredibly fashionable, the colour and movement of that time period oozes pure joy! Imagine me strolling through London, all in pink, surrounded by bright-eyed fashionable Londoners. Maybe even dancing on a lamppost while I’m at it! Who needs a stage, eh?

Now, if you're itching to see what all the fuss is about, and want to see a tutu in action, grab your nearest and dearest and head to a ballet performance! And, don’t forget to channel that vintage 60s chic! A cute mini skirt and a little pink accent, maybe a ribbon in your hair? It's all about making your inner ballerina shine.

From Derbyshire with Love!

As my lovely readers know, I travel across time, often hopping on a train from my charming little hometown of Derbyshire, England, and landing in whichever city my dance heart desires. It's a bit of a whirlwind, let me tell you! I may have just one suitcase and one big dream: To inspire every person to don a pink tutu and feel the freedom and joy that dance brings.

So, before I hop on another train and time travel to my next tutu adventure, remember, lovelies, stay curious about the world of dance, wear a pink tutu whenever you can, and let your inner ballerina shine!

Until next #TutuTuesday,

Emma xoxo
