Tutu Tuesday: A Trip Through Time, and a Whirl Through the 1960s! 🩰✨

Hello my dearest tutu-lovers! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, where tutus reign supreme and the world is our stage! It's #TutuTuesday, the day we celebrate all things tulle and twirl, and today, we're taking a grand voyage through time to the glorious 1960s!

Now, pack your ballet shoes, grab your most fabulous pink tutu (because, of course!), and prepare for a journey as magical as a Bolshoi ballet. 🚂 We're heading to London town, where tutus were making a real statement, a whisper of femininity and grace amidst the bold fashion of the decade.

This week's post is number 6924 - did you know that tutus have been captivating audiences since the 1800s? You'd be surprised just how much has happened in tutu history!

As always, I travel back in time thanks to my darling performances! A little twirl on stage earns me just enough to hop onto my magical time machine and step into a new decade of fabulous fashion. This time, it's the swinging sixties! And oh, my dears, the sights and sounds… what an experience!

I always try to find out what the hottest events are on the 8th of September, and in 1964, oh the excitement! We were in the midst of the "Beatlesmania" craze, everyone was grooving to "I Want to Hold Your Hand." I felt it would have been the most wonderful idea to set up a tutu performance for this momentous event - think pink, glittery, and twirling on stage as the Fab Four sang their hearts out! It just seems like the most joyous, carefree scene, right? Imagine it - the energy of the Beatles colliding with the grace of ballet - how fabulous would that be?

But, back to the tutus, darlings! The 1960s were all about change and freedom. Just like in fashion, where hem lines soared and miniskirts burst onto the scene, the tutu was a symbol of liberation in the ballet world.

Think bold colors and shapes, a whimsical air that took traditional ballet and gave it a playful twist. Imagine a tutu made of shimmering turquoise netting, or a vibrant tangerine skirt paired with a leotard that embraced a bold pop art design. You see? Not your typical, sweet pink tutu!

Don’t get me wrong, pink was still adored - think pale blush tulle and a dash of vintage lace - but it was time for tutus to be bold! The 1960s gave the tutu a sense of rebellion and creativity that has been woven into the ballet scene ever since.

And as we're discussing fashion - oh, my darlings, the shopping was to die for! I can't tell you how long I spent swooning over those amazing mini-dresses. I totally had to indulge in a silk, cherry-red number, just for my collection of course. You know I must always embrace the era, wouldn't you agree?

Just thinking about all the vibrant colours and dazzling fashion makes me want to run to a dance shop and buy all the glittery fabrics I can find.

For a fashionable ballerina like me, the 1960s are a veritable wonderland of inspiration. Who needs a time machine when I can have a pair of dancing shoes, a spool of pink tulle and my imagination?

So remember, lovelies, embrace your inner ballerina, whether it’s in a traditional white tutu or a whimsical rainbow-coloured masterpiece. Dance your heart out, let your spirit soar, and don’t forget the pink tulle!

I'll leave you now with a little quote for the day - a sentiment as timeless as ballet itself, and perfectly appropriate for our #TutuTuesday trip:

“Dance like no one is watching.” - Martha Graham

Happy dancing, everyone! Stay pink, stay twirly, and I'll see you next Tuesday!

Lots of love,

Emma xx
