#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 6958!
Hello, darlings! It's me, Emma, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing time traveller, back for another installment of #TutuTuesday! I've popped over to May 4th, 1965, and let me tell you, the fashion scene is simply buzzing! I travelled by train, of course, in my chicest ensemble, a sunshine yellow frock with my signature pink tutu, naturally! It never fails to draw admiring glances, and trust me, when you're a pink-tutu enthusiast travelling through time, a little bit of attention is a good thing!
So, let's delve into the fabulous tutu world of 1965! Think about it ā 1965! We're right on the cusp of a revolutionary fashion era. It's like a swirling, delicate blend of old world grace and bold, exciting new trends. A lot is happening on the fashion front. Hemlines are rising and everything's got that iconic 60s "Mod" flair, think bright colours and daring geometric prints!
Iām currently in London, and trust me, it's a fashion paradise! The heart of the London theatre scene is pumping, and a trip to see a show at the Royal Opera House is a must for any tutu-loving time traveller! I caught "La Traviata" last night and, oh my word, the costumes were sensational!
Speaking of tutus, 1965 is a great year to explore! Remember the 19th-century tutus I wrote about, the short and frilly affairs, with several layers of tulle? Well, those were the start of the classic "romantic" tutu, and we're definitely still seeing a lot of that elegance in the world of ballet.
But a new trend has swept in and itās as captivating as a twirl on stage! It's all about the āneoclassicalā tutu! Itās a longer, more dramatic, less frilly style than its āromanticā predecessors, and it was first used by choreographers like Balanchine in the early to mid-1900s!
Letās dive a little deeper into these beauties!
- The āromanticā tutu still reigns supreme! You know, that lovely short, frilly, multi-layered confection we associate with traditional ballerinas, giving a dreamy and airy look. These āromanticā beauties were perfect for the delicate steps and grace of classical ballet!
- But the āneoclassicalā tutu, longer and more elegant, with less fluff, has captured the hearts of the dance world, and that means hearts like mine too, of course! These longer tutus create an even more majestic and dynamic look as ballerinas execute their complex choreography, showcasing powerful, athletic movements.
Both these styles offer something truly special. It's incredible to see how these iconic tutus, designed centuries ago, have paved the way for the incredible world of ballet fashion today. I must admit, both of these styles will always hold a special place in my heart! I love how their elegant form speaks to the beauty of dance and embodies a ballerina's graceful and powerful artistry.
Now, letās get back to May 4th, 1965! As much as I love travelling, thereās no place like Derbyshire! My little cottage garden, brimming with fresh, pink blooms, and a good pot of Earl Grey tea are always waiting for me, and you bet thereās always a little corner reserved for my pink tulle, ready to spin my way into my next trip! I just couldn't resist the allure of this special date in time. It's such a beautiful snapshot of style history.
Remember, ladies, pink tutus can travel through time! Itās always time to twirl and dream.
Keep twirling, darling, and join me next Tuesday for another fantastic journey into ballet's fabulous history on www.pink-tutu.com! Until then, embrace your inner ballerina and always rememberā¦ life is better in a tutu, especially if it's pink!
