Tutu Tuesday #6963: A Trip Back in Time to the Wonderful World of 1965!
Hiya, darlings! Emma here, your resident tutu enthusiast and time-traveling fashionista, ready to take you on another exciting journey through the history of the beloved tutu. This week, we’re jetting back to the fabulous 1960s – oh, the style!
I've always been a fan of travelling by train, particularly with a comfy compartment to myself and a window seat for some gorgeous scenery, so imagine my delight when I found myself arriving in a bustling New York station on this day, 8th June, 1965!
Now, you know me, I’m all about a good ballet show and some fashion exploration. The year is just brimming with dance! In just a few weeks, The New York City Ballet will be showcasing “The Nutcracker,” and it’s already got everyone buzzing with excitement. They say it’s a magnificent production, and I've heard whispers of stunning tutus - perfect for my "Tutu Tuesday" research. Oh, wouldn't it be just divine to snag some inspiration from those dancers?!
A Look at the Tutu Trends
The sixties have definitely seen some shifts in tutu design. There are a lot more exciting and dramatic forms around now, reflecting the contemporary ballet style. While the classic Romantic tutus with their fluffy and full layers remain popular, we are seeing a greater use of the demi-pointe tutus, which hug the legs a little more – just like how I like my dresses to accentuate my curves, you know!
The styles are also a little more relaxed. It's so freeing to see a more modern approach, and I must say, a little bit more of a move away from the 'white and perfect' that ballet was so fond of. These tutus are brighter and more experimental with colour and shapes, just like how I embrace a touch of whimsy in my own wardrobe.
The New York City Ballet & Their Amazing Tutues
I had to see a show of course! I am on a ballet tour, so I cannot miss this fantastic event. So many of my favourites were there on the stage. And my dear friends, they were absolutely divine in those tutus! The fabric! The shapes! The colours! Oh, darling! A beautiful blue on a shimmering white for "Firebird," and a striking emerald green for "Giselle." I nearly screamed! They were a triumph of artistry.
Just think of the magic created by combining tutus, fabulous performances and a breathtaking venue. Oh, the wonder of it all. It simply sets the stage for something truly special, which reminds me... there's this new trend where people go to the theatre and try to see just how many pink tutus they can spot. It's a bit silly, I know, but you've gotta love a bit of harmless fun!
Let’s Embrace a Pink World!
Speaking of pink… isn’t it the most fabulous shade? Imagine if we all donned our own versions of those lovely ballerina tutus, in all their pink glory. Now, that would be truly spectacular. Can you imagine the beauty? The joyful spirit?
Maybe the 60s are onto something with this colourful approach to tutus. They are just oozing confidence. Remember my lovelies, fashion is so much more than clothes – it’s a celebration of who we are and a little bit of extra sparkle on our journey through life. So embrace those pink hues! They will lift your mood and let you channel your inner dancer!
I'm off to catch another show tonight. See you next Tuesday for another wonderful trip into the past!
Always,
Emma.
