#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: April 12th 1966 - A Twirling Time Warp! (Post 7007)
Greetings, my fellow twirling enthusiasts! Emma here, your pink-clad, tutu-obsessed time-traveling ballerina blogger, back with another dose of ballet history. Buckle up your pointe shoes, my darlings, as we shimmy our way back to the fabulously fashionable April 12th, 1966.
I recently pirouetted my way to the chicest city in the world - Paris, of course! It's simply brimming with je ne sais quoi. The air itself seems to crackle with the anticipation of a breathtaking performance. Imagine cobbled streets lined with quaint cafes, all smelling of fresh croissants and… tututus?!
Now, let's take a peek at what's going on in the world of ballet on this particular day.
April 12th, 1966: In London, the Royal Ballet were on the cusp of a fantastic production - La Fille Mal Gardée. What's so special about it, you ask? This was the first production ever to feature the full-length ballet score, composed by Frederick Ashton! It was as if Ashton himself were leading the dancers on an incredible journey! Can you picture it? The graceful movement, the delicate steps, the captivating costumes! Just absolutely divine.
Over in New York, the American Ballet Theatre had just announced their new ballet season. I tell you, my darling dancers, you couldn't be caught dead not wearing pink to any of these premieres. Think dazzling ballerinas swirling in elegant pinks and reds! Just breathtaking!
But wait, there's more! In the realm of haute couture, Paris was buzzing with the debut of Yves Saint Laurent's stunning Le Smoking suit for women. My dear friends, it was a revolution! He literally reinvented fashion! What do you think the ballerinas would have thought of the tailored elegance? Surely, a dash of pink would've made those power suits absolutely tres chic!
Now, a little bit about how I travel through time. Let me tell you, darling, it's a dance in itself! Imagine this: a stunning vintage dress, a gorgeous pink tutu, and the scent of roses in the air. I perform a magical ballet routine, fueled by my absolute passion for tutus and all things dance! Then, poof, I'm transported back in time. How glamorous! You might ask, "But how do you afford such extravagant travels?" The answer is as simple as pliés and chassés: I perform at elegant ballets, often dressed in the finest gowns. After a stunning curtain call, it's back on the train, my dance bag bursting with new ideas for my tutu history blog!
Today's #TutuTuesday is dedicated to all those who twirl, leap and dance their hearts out. From the delicate steps of the past to the fashion-forward ballerinas of today, the beauty and grace of ballet transcends time.
Do you love wearing tutus like I do? I love getting your letters and pictures. Send them to
Keep on twirling,
Emma
