#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 7011

Hello my darling dears! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu-wearing time traveller, and today's #TutuTuesday takes us to the fabulous year 1966! Buckle up, darlings, because we're going on a whimsical journey through the world of tutus back when the Beatles ruled the airwaves and everyone was digging the mod look.

As usual, my trusty time machine (a gloriously pink vintage Vauxhall Victor) has brought me safely to this magical time and I'm brimming with excitement to share what I've uncovered about tutu history! I have to say, though, a pink tutu would certainly be turning heads here, even amidst all the flamboyant fashion of the time!

Tutu Timeline: 1966 โ€“ A Whirlwind of Fashion!

It was a fantastic era for fashion, darlings! In 1966, London was the center of the "Swinging Sixties" movement. Mary Quant and the miniskirt were revolutionizing what women wore, with bold colors, geometric patterns and knee-high boots being all the rage.

Speaking of fashion, can you imagine rocking a pink tutu in 1966? The world was wild, darlings!

Think bold and beautiful - like a glamorous ballet dancer walking down the street. A true ballerina would pair it with a structured jacket, some sky-high heels (the more the merrier!) and a bold statement necklace. Imagine the impact! You would literally steal the show!

But now, let's get down to some real history! In 1966, the world of ballet saw a few fascinating happenings:

  • The Royal Ballet was going strong with their classic repertoire and introducing new exciting works.

  • Rudolf Nureyev, the flamboyant and incredibly talented dancer, was captivating audiences all over the world. He was a legend in his time! I wish I could have seen him live, oh the drama!

  • The choreography of the day was a fascinating mix of classic ballet technique and bold new ideas. So, in 1966, the world was just starting to embrace this dynamic approach!

Travelling to London - What a Trip!

Now, for those of you who know me, I love nothing more than travelling! This time, I travelled from Derbyshire by train, it was just too chic not to hop on the steam train - imagine the gorgeous red carriage with leather seats and little compartments for our luggage - utter glamour!

Of course, arriving at Paddington Station, the bustle of the London Underground and a hot cup of tea at a vintage tea shop with an old man at a corner table reading The Times, well that's simply the best part of the journey!

The Theatre and the Shows - Pure Magic!

It would be a crime to come to 1966 and miss out on a proper London theatre show. So, naturally, I dashed to the Royal Opera House, darling! Can you imagine the velvet seats and the atmosphere โ€“ you can just feel the energy in the air! Oh, darling, the music is so enchanting - just divine!

They were doing 'Giselle', the classic story of love, loss and redemption! What a dream come true! Imagine the intricate costumes, the delicate footwork, the hauntingly beautiful musicโ€ฆ Simply breathtaking!

My Ballet Musings

Being back in this beautiful, swirling time period reminds me how essential tutus are. The tutus from the '60s had an elegance that was both refined and playful. Now, that's my kind of fashion!

While I know the "Swinging Sixties" were a revolution in women's fashion, a tutu really ties it all together - think about the femininity of it all, it makes a statement about confidence, and adds a touch of playful whimsy to the look!

That is why I feel the time is right to bring a sprinkle of pink tutu magic into our world! You know I can't just sit around here in my lovely tutu, can I? My time travels wouldn't be the same without spreading the joy of tutus.

Think about the beauty of a pink tutu against the backdrop of the sixties:

  • Imagine the perfect vintage tea party with all your darling friends. You know we can't have tea without a little sprinkle of tutus - they are a must for all ladies who love to sparkle!

  • A vintage fashion photoshoot, all our amazing looks โ€“ just you wait until I share photos from this fabulous time in my next post. Itโ€™s pure joy.

  • Maybe you would wear your tutu with some knee-high boots or a bold dress! Imagine the fun we could have!

Oh, my darlings, let's never let the magic of tutus fade! Remember to follow me on my socials - I have plenty of outfit inspiration ready to share with all of you lovely tutu enthusiasts. Until next time, I leave you with a heartfelt "Au revoir!"

P.S.: What do you think of pink tutus, my sweet readers? Which would you wear for a trip through time - a romantic, vintage style tutu, or something modern and more avant-garde? I am curious to know - tell me in the comments below!

Yours in tutus,

Emma
