#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 19th July 1966

Hello lovelies!

Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where we delve into the whimsical world of tutus. This week, I’m taking us all the way back to 19th July 1966, a truly special date in tutu history, at least in my opinion! It’s all about those elegant, graceful lines, that oh-so-dreamy “whirl” as they say, that we associate with ballerinas - and trust me, that 1966 is a fantastic time to be enjoying that ballet life.

My Week

I arrived in Paris last week. A gorgeous train ride with all its French romance (a pink macaroon for me!) and I was able to indulge in a delicious pastry. Now I'm taking a little detour around Europe - my passion for exploring new shops, fashion, ballet performances, and the train, leads me to always seek adventure. It just takes a bit of time travelling, a few ballet shows, and my suitcase always finds the room for tutus!

Fashion Forward

Let’s face it, fashion in 1966 is just plain fabulous! You’ve got that swinging '60s feel - the mini-skirts, those bold prints, and all those fabulous shapes! The thing about these fabulous mini-skirts is you need those super high-heeled shoes to pull them off! Don't forget that 1966 was the year the "London Look" was really established as the hottest fashion look in the world, and I just love those colourful clothes and long lines. My dream? Well, of course, I have to find the most glorious pink mini-skirt! But don't you worry, I'm sure I will, and I’ll be adding some photos on our instagram @pinktutu! I've been eyeing a fabulous green mini-skirt with black patent leather heels... perfect!

Speaking of fabulous looks - and yes, I'm still dreaming about tutus... the ballet tutus of 1966 are still very classic. But with the emphasis on long legs and bold lines, and my favourite, that little shorter tutu is more popular than the more fluffy tutus. Imagine, if you will, a tutu so short that when you twirl, it's like a kaleidoscope of colourful silk and chiffon! I could twirl for hours just for the sheer joy of it.

A Romantic Ballet Performance

Last night was so divine - I went to see Giselle at the Opera Garnier in Paris! If you are thinking about what to wear for your own little soirée or your next trip to see the ballet, just go for simple elegance. It's so French. My simple black dress that I'd picked up at an exclusive Parisian store was just right for the Parisian atmosphere. So many different coloured evening wear designs for women - I’m so glad that 1966 hasn't embraced that horrible baggy look from some years ago!

And the performance was truly beautiful! That's the thing with Giselle. It's the tragic love story that never gets old, you know? The music...the passion...those amazing ballerina performances. You can almost feel the sorrow and tragedy in the air, all whilst the stage is alive with grace, love, and delicate twirls and jumps that have been honed through the many decades of ballerina's performances that are their traditions. And the tutus? Well, they danced their hearts out, and, just as a lovely surprise, we had a little interlude to the act with two slightly shorter tutus with long lines. A whirlwind of elegant movement, grace and fluidity... I really just love watching and admiring all those twirls!

Dancing and Twirling!

There’s something just so magical about watching dancers. That effortless grace, the incredible flexibility, the control. And as they leap through the air, well, that is just breathtaking. Ballet is a pure joy and you have to get a ballet show into your diary! Even better, make sure you try ballet. That's something that's never going to disappear. Every time you feel like having some fun or getting away from the world, simply step into a class. You don't need to be an amazing dancer but you’ve got to try that feeling of freedom!

Speaking of which… if you are feeling as elegant as I do now then pop down to a ballet class and you will want to spin and twirl in your own short tutu - the 60s style!

Keep the Pink Tutudream Alive!

Now that's a wrap for #TutuTuesday - see you next Tuesday. XOXO

P.S. This post was the 7021st for Pink-Tutu! Can you believe it? A few of my favorite pieces from today? It’s all about those tutu lengths this week. That amazing performance with all those twirls? And that perfect green dress, maybe I can get a matching one.

Until next time - Stay Pretty & Keep Dreaming of Tututuesday!
