#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - September 27th, 1966 🩰

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, back for another edition of your favourite #TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History! 🩰 This week, we're taking a little trip back in time, to the wonderful, swirling world of September 27th, 1966! Can you imagine, my darlings, a world without the wonderful tutu, as we know it? I just can't!

Before I tell you about this fascinating day in ballet history, don't forget to pop over to the lovely www.pink-tutu.com, where you can see my other blog posts on the fascinating evolution of the tutu. You know, that amazing, frilly and utterly divine garment that makes every ballerina look like a magical princess! It's true! And this week we're delving deeper into the tutu's fabulous history!

Now, for a little peek into the glamorous world of ballet back in September 1966, my darlings! Back in the 1960s, London's Covent Garden was just brimming with dance magic!

Imagine, if you will, a dazzling production of Swan Lake! The famous ballerinas were strutting their stuff, with those gorgeous, swirling white tutus, like little white clouds, swirling and twirling! Every detail, from the choreography to those beautifully beaded bodices, just screamed elegance!

As for my own tutu, oh, how I simply love the colour pink, my darlings! I think it adds a bit of fun and playfulness, you know, that delightful feminine flair that ballet is all about. My very favourite place for getting hold of the most gorgeous tutus? Harrods, my dear! It is the ultimate heaven for anything ballet!

This week, I actually got the chance to slip into a gorgeous tulle-tastic tutu! It was the perfect pink - and let me tell you, this is not some cheap, pink tulle you find in your local haberdashery! This one had just the right weight and swirl - just like a ballerina's dream! I swear, it danced just as well as I did!

I even managed to catch the Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House! They were dancing the ballet The Firebird - I can’t tell you how thrilled I was to see my favourite, the talented Margot Fonteyn dancing as the beautiful Firebird! It's not often you see such iconic stars, right?

Back in 1966, there was still a whole lot of dancing in theatre, right in the heart of London. The Sadler’s Wells Theatre was alive with incredible performances, especially Giselle, a story that simply makes me cry every time. I especially loved the gorgeous tutus they wore, especially for the ghostly and delicate Mad Scene!

Of course, no visit to London back in time is complete without a trip on the London Underground, my darlings! You can't beat that charming and oh-so-vintage underground scene! It is such a good thing, when you think about it, that I can travel through time, simply by the magic of ballet performances! I actually make a small fortune each time I appear, by the magic of my dazzling performances! It just shows, that you can really be a time traveler just by knowing your craft!

Don't forget to keep coming back here every week, as I'll be taking you on a wild and wonderful tour of ballet history, right here in this magical place!

So, until next week, my darlings, keep swirling and keep dreaming about all things pink, tutus, and everything fabulous!

See you next week!

Yours in pink,

Emma 🩰
