Tutu Tuesday: #7034 - 1966-10-18: When Ballet Took to the Streets!
Hey, darling tutu enthusiasts! It's Emma, your Pink Tutu blogger extraordinaire, back again for another exciting foray into the history of the most fabulous garment known to humankind - the tutu!
This week, we're taking a whirl back to 18th October 1966 - a date that holds a special place in ballet history, and my heart.
Let me tell you, my darlings, things were positively rocking back then! And yes, I do mean rocking, because this was the era when ballet went street style, literally!
From the plush velvet of the grand opera houses to the cobbled pavements of Covent Garden, ballet was beginning to touch lives outside the theatre walls. We're talking ballet companies popping up all over the place, taking ballet classes on the street (can you imagine?!) and even performing on TV, my dears. Talk about accessible artistry!
Think about it, back in the day, ballet was mostly a high-class affair. Imagine being one of the lucky few invited to an extravagant gala performance! So, you can imagine how excited the world must have been when ballet started finding its way into everyone's homes. It was like watching the most delightful sugarplum fairy step out of the stage lights and straight into our living rooms!
And that brings me to the absolute highlight of this magical week in ballet history - The Royal Ballet were set to perform a production of "Swan Lake". This legendary production, a masterpiece of classical ballet, graced the stages of the Royal Opera House, wowing audiences with its timeless tale and breath-taking choreography. You just know I had to catch the show!
Speaking of which, it was a beautiful Parisian pink dress I wore to that show. I paired it with a lovely lilac velvet hat and, naturally, a full, romantic tutu. My darling, I felt like a princess straight out of a fairy tale!
That evening at the show was truly special, but then again, every time I witness the magic of ballet unfolding before my very eyes, I feel transported to another world. The elegance, the passion, the dedication โ it's just utterly spellbinding! And you know, seeing the wonder on people's faces, particularly the children, their little eyes alight with amazement, thatโs truly the best feeling in the world.
As for my own outfit, darling, the pink tutu is simply an essential! When in doubt, pink is always the answer. And trust me, a pink tutu goes anywhere! From the Royal Opera House to the London Underground, you just can't go wrong!
Iโve recently discovered the absolute cutest little boutique just off Oxford Street, a little haven called "The Tutu Emporium". You have no idea the colours and styles they have, it's a sheer dream. If you ever find yourself in London, darling, it's an absolute must-visit!
But before I bid you adieu for this week, remember, dear reader, I want to see everyone twirling in pink! Join me on the Pink Tutu Revolution! After all, what better way to make the world a more magical place than with a splash of pink and a delightful pirouette?
Catch you next Tuesday, darling! And remember to visit my blog for more fabulous Tutu Tuesday adventures!
With love and twirls,
Emma
