Tutu Tuesday #7038: Whirl Back to the Swinging Sixties!
Hello darlings! It’s Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing time traveller, and this week on #TutuTuesday we’re shimmying back to the dazzling 1960s!
I have to admit, stepping into the 60s feels like entering a fashion fairytale! There’s this thrilling sense of liberation – everything is new and exciting, like the world has just had a big, beautiful makeover. Now, let's dive into the fashion scene, shall we?
Swinging Skirts and a Tutu Twist
Imagine a world where every dress twirls, every skirt flows like a ballerina’s dream. Think miniskirts, bold prints, and that incredible use of colour - the brighter, the better! I’m talking about head-turning lime greens, blazing oranges, and of course, our beloved pink, darling! This was the era of fun and fashion that didn't hold back. Even the most daring cuts were considered glamorous.
But what about the ballet world, you ask? Well, this was a time of change even in the world of dance. You see, tutus, as you know them today, were just starting to take on the sleek lines and sophisticated looks that have become iconic. Gone were the layers and layers of netting, replaced with beautifully flowing silhouettes, which made even the most complex ballet moves seem effortless. Think Margot Fonteyn in Giselle, her flowing tulle a symbol of romanticism and grace, or Rudolf Nureyev who swept across the stage, his masculinity perfectly complementing his partner's ethereal grace. This is a time when we really see the art form developing to its modern expression.
Speaking of Rudolf, this date in history - 15th November 1966 - was special for the ballet world. Nureyev, with his charisma and revolutionary style, was starting his American tour. Talk about a whirlwind! You can almost imagine the anticipation and excitement around his arrival. This was a man who had broken barriers and challenged traditions - imagine his impact on an eager American audience! This was a true spectacle - both for ballet fans and those just curious about this charismatic dancer.
The World at Your Feet
It’s the magic of ballet that draws me to travel back in time – not only the beautiful art, but also the fashion. Back in the 60s, I can’t help but admire how people embraced life, a bit like how we embrace ballet, full-heartedly. They had an "anything goes" attitude and dared to express themselves with every stitch and every twirl.
To capture a little of that vibrant spirit, I'm thinking of incorporating some 60s inspired looks into my own repertoire. Picture it, darlings – bold patterns, swingy lines, and maybe even a hint of "mod" style… ooh la la! Now I have a new adventure to embark upon: finding a vintage pink tutu with an added dash of 60s glam!
Oh, and did I tell you? Today’s journey was a splendid train ride – something truly magnificent about riding the rails to immerse myself in a new decade, like stepping into a scene straight from Brief Encounter! (Just picture my elegant, pastel pink dress and a hat with a feather, just so!).
Before you rush off to grab your favourite pink tutus, don’t forget to check out my vintage 60s inspiration collection, I’ve curated it just for you, on the pink-tutu.com website.
