#TutuTuesday: A Twirl Through Time - December 6th, 1966 (Post #7041)
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink-tutu-wearing time traveller, back with another #TutuTuesday. Today, we're taking a little trip back in time, to December 6th, 1966, just a hop, skip, and twirl back to a time when the world was swirling with excitement for The Nutcracker. It's a classic ballet for a reason, my dears, and today I’m going to fill you in on just why…
Now, let’s take a peek at what’s going on in the ballet world on this very date, shall we? The Royal Ballet was performing at the Royal Opera House in London, naturally. A must-see for any tutu-lover! This would have been an opulent affair, brimming with beautifully crafted tutus, dramatic costumes, and intricate sets, and believe me, these are things I wouldn't miss for the world! You’ll probably be able to find footage online if you fancy a peek at those glorious tutus.
1966 was a great time to be a tutu-loving ballerina! The world was bursting with the artistry of some truly legendary ballet stars. My favourite dancer, Margot Fonteyn, was in her prime at the Royal Ballet, and the glamorous Dame Margot would have been a sight to behold in a perfectly pink tutu, wouldn't she?
But darling, it wasn't just London! Across the pond, the New York City Ballet was presenting its annual performance of The Nutcracker, a true holiday treat for ballet-loving families. I just can't imagine the wonder on the faces of children as they were transported into the magic of the ballet with a touch of their favourite pink tutu (or perhaps, the dreamiest shade of lavender?)
You see, back in 1966, tutus weren't just for professionals. The petit ballet, the tiny ballerina, and their delightful tutus graced dance studios everywhere! The delicate tiers of fabric, swirling and swirling like spun sugar, brought the fairytale to life for little girls across the globe, with their imaginations alight. It was a time of innocent charm and elegance, just like the petit ballet in a beautifully frilled, little pink tutu.
A Pink Tutu MomentRemember my journey? Well, for today’s trip I travelled by train! I was lucky enough to find myself in a vintage carriage with luxurious seats, so soft and comfortable that I almost wished I was wearing a more formal, but comfy, full tutu instead of my usual travel tutu, which is a darling little bubble-gum pink one (it’s very comfy, you see, for all those jumps on and off trains.)
So, how are we celebrating Tutu Tuesday today, my lovely ladies? I’m just back from my favourite Parisian fabric shop! I have plans to try and find the perfect lace to trim a little pink tutu – a TutuTuesday treat for myself! A good pink tutu makes you feel fabulous, and it can just spark so much creativity, I just have to find it, don’t you agree?
My time machine has a strict diet of chocolate croissants, of course. But a few well-placed TutuTuesday shopping sprees make the trip all the more exciting! What have you planned? Perhaps a twirl on the street, an afternoon tea at your favourite cafe wearing your favourite tutu, or a visit to the theatre? Whatever you do, remember to wear pink (because of course!), embrace the magic, and feel your inner ballerina shine!
Now off I go! More travel adventures await. Catch you next #TutuTuesday for a whirlwind tour through ballet history!
With twirls and kisses,
Emma
