#TutuTuesday: A Trip Back in Time! (Post #7062)
Greetings, fellow tutu enthusiasts!
It’s Emma here, your trusty pink tutu-wearing time traveller, and I’m absolutely bursting with excitement for this week's #TutuTuesday adventure! We're heading back to 2nd May, 1967 for a glimpse into the world of ballet and, of course, tutus!
Before we hop on the time machine, though, a little confession: I have to admit, sometimes I miss the simpler days when tutus were just tutus, you know? No special edition limited release versions, no custom designs for different dance styles...just classic, beautiful tulle that swirled and spun with grace.
So, this Tuesday, let's rewind the clock and explore the delightful ballet scene of 1967, when things were a little more, shall we say, traditional?
Back to the Swinging Sixties!
Imagine yourself transported to London in 1967. The city is brimming with energy, a kaleidoscope of colours and sounds – the “Swinging Sixties” in full bloom! It's a vibrant period of social and cultural change, a time when fashion pushed boundaries and expression took centre stage.
And ballet, my darlings, is definitely part of the picture.
The Royal Ballet Company was at the pinnacle of its fame, and the London Coliseum was a buzzing hive of activity with a thrilling roster of ballets on stage. We're talking full-length classics like "Giselle" and "Swan Lake", masterpieces that have captivated audiences for centuries, plus some captivating new works that were leaving their mark on the world of dance.
Of course, no ballet would be complete without the exquisite tutus that were a defining characteristic of this era. We’re talking those classically elegant tutus that swept and twirled with the grace of the ballerinas who wore them. I’m talking voluminous tulle, carefully crafted with painstaking attention to detail – and of course, lots of gorgeous shades of pink!
Oh, the tutus of 1967! They were all about timeless elegance, flowing with every movement, accentuating the grace and power of the ballerinas. There's a real air of effortless femininity that you don't see as much today, but for me, it embodies the very essence of ballet.
My Time-Traveling Style Notes
For my outfit today, I decided to pay homage to the fashion scene of the time! Think of bold prints, mini-skirts, and some glorious head-to-toe pink! I've paired my favourite powder pink tulle tutu with a snazzy floral-print shirt, and a wide-brimmed straw hat with a pink ribbon to match my fabulous footwear – bright pink shoes with chunky platform heels, of course! It’s a true mix of ballet glamour and 1960s flair.
Speaking of fashion, the ballet world in 1967 was abuzz with the latest fashion trends. Ballet shoes were, surprisingly, not just the “pink ballet shoes” of our current world, but were worn with some fabulous tights in a riot of colours. We're talking neon shades, geometric patterns – just incredible. Imagine ballet costumes with bright colours and playful prints, not the traditional shades of pastel and muted tones of today! The boldness was exhilarating!
A Visit to the Coliseum
Speaking of the Coliseum, that's where I'm headed now. I just secured a ticket for “The Sleeping Beauty,” one of the most enchanting and classic ballets, a favourite even today!
Honestly, how could anyone not be captivated by the intricate choreography, the breathtaking sets, and, of course, the majestic tutus! Can you imagine a more exquisite spectacle? The vibrant tutus of the fairy attendants, the glorious costumes for the Princess, the dark allure of the evil Maleficent… It's a whirlwind of elegance and drama that leaves you speechless.
Later, after the show, I plan to make my way to the enchanting and world-famous Harrods, a shop with such a unique air of opulence! This place has always been a haven for those who adore fashion and beauty, a perfect setting for picking up the latest in tutu-inspired accessories and, hopefully, even a new tulle creation to add to my growing collection.
More Than Just Tutus!
But back to the main event: it's 1967, so expect to see some thrilling fashion statements beyond the stage! In those times, fashion was both exciting and impactful. I love that you can get an essence of the rebellious attitude of the time through how people express themselves through clothing! It's definitely a big part of what I love about history.
It's truly captivating to witness the artistry and elegance of this period, from the glamorous evening gowns to the playful mini-skirts that took the world by storm.
The energy here in 1967 is electrifying, just waiting to be experienced! I can't wait to explore this magnificent era through my pink-tutu-wearing eyes.
