#TutuTuesday: A Trip Back in Time to 1967 - It's All About The Tutu!

Hello darlings! Emma here, back with you for another delightful #TutuTuesday from www.pink-tutu.com. I've had a truly splendid time in the Time Twister (that's my little nickname for my trusty time-traveling machine!), and today's trip brought me to the wonderful world of ballet in the summer of 1967.

Hold onto your tiaras, loves, because you're going to be surprised! Today's #TutuTuesday post, number 7075 (that's right, we're reaching a pretty grand total!) takes us back to a time when the world of ballet was buzzing with new ideas and bold innovations.

Before we go on our exciting journey, I just need to share this little gem of information – you won't believe it, darlings! – on 1st August 1967, *the world was watching as Valentina Tereshkova, the very first woman in space, went back up there! Isn't that simply amazing?! * What a shining example of female strength and ambition. She is a real inspiration for all of us!

Fashion and Tutu Trends:

Oh my, my loves, what a fascinating era! We're stepping back into the groovy 60s, a time where fashion was full of colour and excitement. Think vibrant hues, geometric patterns and just a dash of that “Mod” attitude. This is also the era when a famous ballerina named Margot Fonteyn is gracefully dancing her way into the hearts of many with her elegant, expressive performances! She embodies everything a true ballerina should be, graceful, elegant and enchanting.

You wouldn't think it, but the 1960s had some major changes brewing in the tutu world. Some ballerinas, especially the rebels of the era, were saying goodbye to the long, classic tutu and saying hello to shorter, more playful versions that were perfect for showing off some incredible leg work! Think flowing skirts, maybe even a bit of tulle, and a little bit of rebelliousness!

For the ballets of the era, think “Giselle,” the tragic romance set in a magical, fantastical world of fairies and folklore. Think "La Bayadere," an enthralling story of love, betrayal, and sacrifice, featuring iconic dances like the famous “Kingdom of the Shades" which we’ll be discussing further in future #TutuTuesday blog posts!

Tutu Travels:

Right now I’m on a lovely little train journey across Britain. These trains were a little slower then, more elegant. Just like my beautiful, shimmering, light pink, tutu, so pretty I can't help but spin and dance every now and then! And if I must say so myself, darlings, I’ve got my pink satin luggage to match, all packed with the most delightful dresses and accessories you could ever imagine!

I am also really hoping to see a wonderful show here in London. There's always so much magic and excitement happening in the ballet world here, with shows, workshops and competitions all the time. And it is at places like The Royal Opera House and Covent Garden that you truly witness the spirit of the world of ballet. You know, darlings, you've just got to see it to believe it!

The beautiful designs of these gorgeous theaters have stayed with me to this day, and it always reminds me of just how timeless the love of ballet truly is. They make me appreciate even more the art, the passion and the magic that unfolds on stage, don't you think, lovelies?

Getting Into Tutu-Style!

Today, darling, I’d like to share with you a few ideas on how to bring the elegance and grace of 1960s ballet into your own look:

  • Embracing the Pink: You've got it, darling, it's all about the pink! Think delicate shades of rose, blushing pinks, and gorgeous, rich, cherry blossom pinks. Don’t be shy, go full-on pink power with a bold blush pink dress or a playful pink-print blouse!

  • Get your Groove On with Geometric Shapes: It’s the ultimate statement piece – geometric prints, darling, were HUGE in the '60s. Think circles, squares, stripes and those cool Op Art patterns! Wear a skirt with an intricate geometric pattern or maybe a playful scarf, for that effortless yet trendy look!

  • A touch of The Classic, With A Little Edgy Twirl: Who says the classic ballerina look can't be edgy, too, darling? Embrace a timeless, yet trendy, silhouette with a pretty, full skirt, some tulle for a subtle hint of the tutu and pair it with a daring pair of thigh-high boots! Remember, we don't want to be shy with our choices, we are queens of the dance floor.

Remember, darling, it's not just about the outfit, it's about feeling confident and embracing your inner ballerina. It's about dancing, twirling and spinning your way into the world, just like the ballerinas we're celebrating today. You go girl!

Now, my dears, I hope this little peek into the 1967 ballet scene was full of glitz and glam. As I said, it was full of interesting changes and amazing talent. And before I whisk myself away with my magical Time Twister, remember to visit www.pink-tutu.com! It's chock-full of lovely pictures, stylish advice and loads more tutu history! Stay tuned for another captivating trip in next week’s #TutuTuesday blog post!

Until then, keep those tutus twirling and the pink flowing!

Love, Emma

I know this post is rather long, but hopefully it’s a good start. You could include many more details if you wished to go into the ballet performances that were on at that time, ballet dancers etc. This is a fun concept and you can do what you like to it, make it completely your own and go wild!
