#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 31st October 1967 (Post #7088)
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina, bringing you another installment of #TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History! Today, we're taking a trip back to the fabulous 31st October 1967, a date that holds a special place in my tutu-loving heart.
Firstly, a little about me! I'm Emma, a Derbyshire lass through and through, but with a heart that beats for the ballet world, the thrill of a good train journey, and of course, the gloriously frilly delight of a perfectly pink tutu! I fund my time travels through my ballet performances, whether it's a dazzling performance on stage or teaching a little bit of tutu magic in a local ballet school. Seeing those beautiful dancers pirouette, and those stunning costumes, just fills me with inspiration. And, it all feeds back into this here blog, my little corner of the internet dedicated to everything tutu!
Right, back to 1967! This October was truly an exciting time for the ballet world. A real hotbed of talent and creativity, and believe me, darling, a pink tutu was definitely the fashion must-have!
On the 31st, let's be honest, most of the world was gearing up for a terrific Halloween. The ultimate opportunity to don a costume and embrace a bit of playful mischief. Now, whilst I'm never one to shy away from a bit of fabulous spooky fun, we mustn't forget the grand ballet happenings on this particular date!
Imagine the sheer elegance! In London, the Royal Ballet was enthralling audiences with La Sylphide, a romantic ballet brimming with ethereal beauty. Now, a whirl of white tutus, to be exact, and definitely the height of fashion! I daresay you could practically feel the ethereal air of the Romantic era swirling through the theatre!
But wait, darlings! There was so much more. This date also marks the stunning anniversary of La Bayadère. Imagine, the most lavishly staged classical ballet celebrating its 100th year of grace and glory. You know I had to make sure my tutu was looking sharp, in honour of such a milestone. Talk about a major fashion statement.
Imagine this, darlings: The iconic white tutu - such a classic! - but with intricate embroideries, stunning floral motifs, and dazzlingly elegant tulle that truly transported you to another world! And, of course, all under the glow of that theatre spotlight - simply heavenly!
This October 31st, the entire ballet world was in a state of excited anticipation. Just like us here at pink-tutu.com today, every ballerine worth their pailletted shoes had their eye on The Nutcracker, a ballet that always holds a special place in the hearts of every dancer, myself included. Just imagine, that famous Sugarplum Fairy tutu, a dream of a pastel pink with sparkling details, dancing into December! It simply sets the scene for an absolutely magnificent festive season.
Oh, I just love the ballet world! It truly is an escape. As a dancer myself, the memories I've made on stage, both personal and travelling through time, truly do make the heart sing! I feel that magic every time I put on my pink tutu.
Now, I'm heading off to a fabulous ballet shop, just off Oxford Street, for a little spot of pink tutu shopping. Who knows what wonders I'll find! Maybe a new design inspired by one of those gorgeous costumes from the ballet shows we've been talking about!
Don't forget, darlings, a pink tutu can take you anywhere. Even back to a magical evening at the theatre in 1967.
So, pop on your favourite pink tutu and let's embrace the fabulous magic of ballet!
Until next week, stay pink!
Your ever-fashionable, Emma x
