#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 13th February 1968 🩰💖

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink-loving ballerina, Emma, back with another installment of #TutuTuesday - your weekly dose of tutu history! I'm currently twirling my way through 1968, and trust me, the world is just brimming with gorgeous tutus!

Today's date is the 13th February 1968, a day ripe with the promise of romance, fun and, of course, fabulously stylish tutus! It's always so thrilling to step back in time and see how the dance world is embracing these airy wonders.

Before we dive into the exciting happenings of this specific date, let me tell you a little bit about how I, a humble ballerina from Derbyshire, ended up jet-setting through time in my favourite pink tutu. Well, you see, it all started with a rather grand ballet performance I was dancing in, one that landed me in a… well, let's just say a bit of a whirlwind, and voilà! Time travel. You know, the usual!

Anyway, I'm lucky enough to make a living doing what I love – performing ballet, wearing pretty pink tutus and travelling around the globe. What better way to fund my travels, right?

And speaking of travel, I'm utterly besotted with the railway. Oh, the glamour of steaming engines, clattering carriages, and that unique aroma of steam and adventure. Just recently I was whisked away to London, a dazzling spectacle of twinkling lights, grand theaters, and bustling shopping streets. The ballet world simply comes alive in the heart of the city.

So, where was I? Ah, yes, today's date. As we all know, 1968 was a rather momentous year in ballet history. Remember the glorious debut of the Royal Ballet's "La Bayadere"? Oh my, the tutus! Magnificent layers of silk, a symphony of delicate fabrics swirling with each arabesque, each pas de bourrée… divine!

Speaking of stunning spectacles, today in 1968, a truly remarkable event occurred! Can you imagine? The famous Russian dancer, Maya Plisetskaya, performed a mesmerising "The Dying Swan" in London. I absolutely adore her - so graceful, so elegant, she could truly make a tutu fly! I wish I was there, perched on the edge of my seat, my own pink tutu gleaming with excitement.

For those of you who aren't aware, this ballet piece is the pinnacle of tutu history, truly a piece of artistry, emotion and pure magic all bundled together. Imagine, delicate, layered white tulle, perfectly shaping every gesture, every pose. I bet the audience was utterly enchanted.

As always, fashion played a crucial role on this day. Now, picture a sleek and elegant fashion editor, pen in hand, her gaze glued to the stage, eager to document every detail of the magnificent costumes, the tulle, the fabrics - you see, tutus are so much more than just a stage outfit, they're a window into the world of style, art, and even social history!

And speaking of style, it simply wouldn't be a true #TutuTuesday post without mentioning my own wardrobe! You all know how much I adore pink, and let me tell you, there's nothing like a bright pink tutu to inject a dose of pure joy into the world.

This week I'm loving my delicate tulle pink tutu. You know the one, a single layer of shimmering tulle with a beautiful pink ribbon accentuating the waist, perfectly cinching in the silhouette. The light twinkles beautifully as I spin and twirl! It's perfect for an afternoon stroll through the city, and I just adore pairing it with my bright pink pumps! The world is just so much prettier in pink, isn’t it?

Oh, don't forget my gorgeous vintage tutu collection! This week, I’ve fallen head over heels for a vintage lilac tutu - absolutely stunning! Imagine, delicate, diaphanous tulle cascading around you like a shimmering dream! I absolutely must find some lilac pumps to go with it! It's got all the intricate detail of a ballerina's outfit. Simply lovely, wouldn’t you agree?

Tutus - a whirlwind of joy and elegance. What more could you ask for?

Well, my dears, until next Tuesday, keep on twirling and shining your light! Don’t forget to subscribe to my website, www.pink-tutu.com and follow me on social media for daily inspiration!
