#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post 7111

Greetings from Paris, darling!

It's Tuesday again, which means it's time for your favourite #TutuTuesday blog post! Today, we're taking a trip back to April 9th, 1968. I just adore this era, full of glamour, fabulous music, and, of course, stunning dance! Imagine me in a soft, dusty pink tutu, hair tied up in a neat chignon, sitting front row at the Paris Opéra, all the while taking in the spectacle of it all. Oh, the romance!

You'll find me on the train again this week - the Paris train, naturally! It’s such a fun way to travel. A bit slower than my trusty time machine, of course, but it lets me take in all the stunning scenery along the way. You just never know what glamorous ladies and gents you might bump into at a train station, too!

And today, on the 9th of April, it's quite a momentous day, even in the world of ballet! We have the real Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna, no less, visiting the Opera, enjoying the magnificent Paris Opéra Ballet under the guidance of their formidable leader, Serge Lifar. They were just rehearsing for their season finale: Le Lac des Cygnes, (Swan Lake)! Talk about dramatic! I just love the way that grand tutu takes centre stage. You know, when I see that classic white swan tutu… It always reminds me of all the wonderful ballet shows I’ve seen from times gone by, from Pavlova’s Swan Lake to Nureyev and Fonteyn. Simply breathtaking.

I just can't get over this era! I must say, though, fashion-wise, 1968 isn’t the epitome of tutu-wearing. Sadly, I'm seeing the mini-skirts and a more casual, swinging style come into fashion. However, I have faith that we can bring back the ballet skirt’s influence to make it trendsetting and fashionable once again. If anyone can do it, it’s me!

I have plans to visit Les Galeries Lafayette today, I just love their department store, they really do have a whole world of wonderful clothes and I simply must go and see the latest offerings. Who knows, perhaps I might even discover an amazing, fluffy, pink tutu-esque outfit amongst all the swinging 60s chic. We have to find ways to inject the beauty of the ballet tutu into modern-day fashions!

This has got to be done, folks! Everyone knows that tutus make us all happy and bring a certain level of joie de vivre. They're the most feminine, stylish garments around! Why, even the most sophisticated woman would be ready for a whirl in a fabulous tutu!

But, darling, it's not just about looking pretty. There's history there, and that history goes back to the early days of ballet, a long, long time ago. Even before Anna Pavlova and all her contemporaries, people danced in tutus. They had to have something to twirl and move in! But we've got a lot of catching up to do. So that's why I have my fabulous Tutu History series. It’s not just a blog, my dears, it's a campaign.

That's where you come in, my darling readers! I want you to join my mission, one tutu at a time. And how, do you ask?

Well, it's actually very simple, even for a simple thing like a tutu:

  • Embrace the pink tutu. Why just any colour, you ask? Well, the reason is simple: It’s utterly magnificent, delicate, feminine, and above all… magical!
  • Let the pink tutu empower you! If you ever feel shy, uninspired, or simply a little drab, put on a tutu, darlings. I dare you. I double dare you!
  • Share the pink tutu spirit with the world. The power of the pink tutu should not be confined to ballet studios and stage performances! You can make your world brighter and more glamorous with just one tutu.

Until next time, my darling, remember...

Life's too short not to wear a pink tutu.

See you all next Tuesday!

Love,

Emma x
