Tutu Tuesday: #7121 - 1968-06-18 - Oh Darling, it's the Swinging Sixties!
Hello darlings! Welcome to another Tuesday, and you know what that means - it’s time to step into the pinkest timeline, for a trip down tutu-tastic history lane! I’m your girl Emma, your Pink Tutu blogger extraordinaire, and today, we’re hopping on a pink steam train straight back to 18th June 1968!
Today is a date steeped in excitement, brimming with fabulous fashions, and an era just begging for a little pink tutu magic.
But first, let’s chat a bit about the fabulousness of today’s dress code. Think bright, bold colours - think orange! Purple! Green! And patterns, oh my, the patterns! You'd be forgiven for thinking you’d been swept back to a kaleidoscopic explosion! Think geometric designs, swirling paisley patterns, and oh-so-hip floral motifs.
This era was just bursting with personality, and every little detail counted! A tiny silver brooch peeking out from a chunky knit cardigan, a splash of crimson lipstick on a girl with a mischievous sparkle in her eyes, or the jaunty tilted hat adorned with a feathered plume. We may be traveling back to 1968, but one thing stays the same, we gals love to accessorize! And even though a good, old fashioned tutu wasn't in every woman's wardrobe back then (although it really should have been!), you could totally rock some pink floral tights and a bell-bottomed skirt for a major '68 vibe!
Oh, and speaking of London - it was simply buzzing with life! There was a fresh, youthful energy in the air, and London had become the beating heart of style for the entire globe. Think Carnaby Street - overflowing with vibrant boutiques bursting with all things modish, trendy and oh-so-slightly outrageous. It was a true feast for the senses, with colour and texture exploding at every turn. If I were a Londoner in 1968, I would have spent hours there!
1968 was a whirlwind, and on June 18th, the fashion scene was brimming with a wave of innovation. I wouldn't be surprised to see a young woman sporting a hot pink miniskirt, knee-high boots, and a statement necklace of colourful beads. It’s such a fashion-forward vibe, I want to be in London now! It really makes me wish I had a time machine to whisk myself there right now!
Now, let’s have a little peek into our historical tutu time capsule for today!
18th June, 1968 - Today, it seems, was all about making statements. On this very day, a group of designers called 'The Flower Power Collective' staged a flashmob outside the London headquarters of the notoriously old-fashioned 'House of Couture'. They held up bouquets of lilies, wore colorful garments with peace signs painted on them, and chanted a playful ode to a brighter future. They're even said to have let a few white doves fly out of their giant bouquets - imagine the pictures in all the papers!
Oh darling, it's moments like this that remind me that even with a bit of pink tutu-powered fun, we can bring a little joy into even the dullest days, and remember the power of kindness, individuality and a dash of pink to brighten up any dreary situation.
Before I go, remember – pink is the colour of kindness, confidence and pure delight! So, pop on your favourite pink piece and celebrate 18th June 1968!
Keep those twirling skirts swaying and join me again next Tuesday for another dive into our fantastically frivolous pink tutu history.
Don’t forget to tell your friends about #TutuTuesday - I want to see the whole world sporting tutus!
Till then,
Emma
