#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 1968-10-22 - A Blast From the Past!

Hello Darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu's #TutuTuesday blog! It's your girl Emma here, popping in from the glamorous time-traveling bubble of my very own design!

Today's Tutu Tuesday is all about delving into the fascinating history of the tutu, because I just love a good fashion throwback, especially when it comes to our beloved ballet attire!

This week, I've hopped back to October 22nd, 1968, and let me tell you, fashion was everything in that era!

But before we go any further, don't forget to subscribe to my blog for exclusive content, outfit ideas and maybe even some behind-the-scenes glimpses of my fabulous time travel escapades! Oh, and if you haven't already, make sure to follow me on Insta at @PinkTutu - we're always having a right laugh over there!

Now, back to 1968… the year when the miniskirt and bell bottoms were ruling the fashion world, and the Beatles were sending everyone wild with their tunes!

But back in the world of ballet, it's worth remembering that, although the tutu was already a mainstay, 1968 marked a moment of incredible change. This is the year that the brilliant and inspiring Rudolf Nureyev defected to the West, wowing the world with his artistry and his incredible dance talent.

Imagine - dancing to The Beatles with a magnificent Nureyev gracing the stage… sheer perfection! It's no wonder 1968 was such an important year for ballet!

Let's dive deeper into tutu history - all aboard the Pink Tutu time machine!

1968… a time of change, and with change comes exciting developments in fashion, even in the world of ballet. Imagine swirling silk and the elegant rise and fall of a tutu as you twirl on the dance floor! That's what made the tutu a staple of this time - elegance and drama.

Think of tutus as more than just clothes, my lovelies. They tell a story – they tell a story of strength, beauty, and movement. Just like you!

If you've been following my blog for a while (and I hope you have - number 7139 here!), you already know my obsession with ballet. From the elegant swirl of the fabric to the intricate layers, the tutu tells the story of every dancer, expressing every emotion through a graceful dance.

For instance, take a look at Margot Fonteyn, a legendary ballerina known for her stunning beauty and the delicate movements that made her a world icon. And guess what she was known to wear on stage? That’s right - her beloved tutu! It helped her bring life to the graceful swans and dramatic princesses of ballets from around the globe!

Speaking of swans… if you're heading to the ballet today, maybe treat yourself to some swan-inspired fashion for that added bit of ballerina flair, my darlings! Remember, don't forget your pink tutu, we’re celebrating tutus, after all!

But wait, there's more! Back to my trip back in time, where I stumbled upon a fabulous little store called "The Dance Shoppe", brimming with beautiful tutus of every shade imaginable, but you bet the pinks were my favourite! The store owner, Miss Felicity, told me stories of the dancers from the area. It was just what I needed to continue my research for my beloved #TutuTuesday blog!

And since we're on the topic of time travel, just think… if you were travelling through time in 1968, wouldn't you be tempted to step into one of those adorable mini-skirts? It's just so much fun to experiment with different fashion eras, and let's be honest, the 1960s were pure fun!

Of course, you have to balance those trendy miniskirts with something a little more glamorous. After all, a dash of pink tutu goes with just about anything. We’re a match made in fashion heaven, my darling!

But enough about me – you're the ones I’m here to inspire!

Speaking of inspiration… if you want to really embody the spirit of the tutu, I say why not check out your local ballet company or the famous Royal Ballet in London, if you happen to be nearby! You could get inspired for your own #PinkTutuMoments with your girlfriends, take a few dance classes for the ultimate feminine experience and maybe even see one of those fabulous shows. Remember, everything looks better with a touch of pink!

If you can't make it to a show, do not fret! Catch up on your favorite ballerina classics on your laptop, or simply embrace your inner dancer and twirl with your friends for a fantastic photo-shoot.

Now, let's get this Tutu Tuesday celebration going! Grab a delicious slice of your favorite pink cake (the prettiest cake colour there is!), maybe some raspberry tea with a little honey to go with it, and take a trip back in time with me, as we discuss those delightful fashion finds of 1968. Think of it as our little pink tutu fashion party. I'll even add some whimsical fairy lights to your reading space for extra magic!

Okay, darlings, I think I've spilled enough of the beans for today.

Next week, I'm off to Paris, the land of fashion! The ultimate tutu paradise, wouldn’t you say? Keep a look out for some spectacular Parisian street style on my #TutuTuesday blog next week. You won't want to miss this!

Until then, remember - spread a little pink tutu love and wear it with pride. It's your time to shine!

Lots of Love,

Emma xxx
