#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: April 1st, 1969! (Post 7162)

Hello darlings!

It's Emma here, your resident tutu-tastic time-travelling fashionista, ready to take you on another trip down ballet history lane! Today, we're venturing to a time not so very long ago, the groovy, free-spirited year of 1969. Hold onto your tutus, this one's a right peach!

My journey started this week in a little village tucked away in the heart of Derbyshire. Imagine rolling hills, quaint stone cottages, and the sound of birdsong – idyllic, isn't it? But let me tell you, there's a real energy about the place!

Now, before I get too carried away with the charm of the countryside, let's delve into the fascinating world of tutus in 1969.

A Ballet Boom: This period saw a flourishing of ballet interest! I don't think I've seen so many ladies sporting ballet slippers and even the odd full-on tutu while out and about. Imagine, my loves, a world where everyone is just as enamoured with the elegance and beauty of ballet as we are! The Royal Ballet, with its star-studded cast, was on the cusp of its Golden Age, captivating audiences all over London, and even here in the little village where I began my journey!

Fashion Forward: Think colourful and bold! 1969 was all about a vibrant, playful attitude to clothing. Imagine long, flowing skirts paired with cute cardigans, and lots and lots of stripes. This was definitely a period that celebrated colour and fun, and the tutus certainly reflected that! Imagine lush emerald greens, sunny yellows, and eye-catching reds. You can't beat a tutu that pops!

A Tale of Two Cities: Speaking of colourful cities, what a thrill it was to be in the midst of both London and Paris, the ultimate destinations for fashion and dance! Imagine Parisian cafes with women swirling around in tutus, and the buzz of Covent Garden as the crowds gathered for a night of ballet. The sheer energy was incredible!

April Fool's Day!: Today, dear readers, it's April Fool's Day! While you're getting your April Fool's tricks in, I'm here reminding you that wearing a pink tutu is always the best way to get a good laugh – it’s an expression of joy and whimsy! Let's face it, a tutu instantly elevates any occasion!

My Travels: As always, I travelled by train. Isn't it just the most romantic and evocative mode of transport? Imagine gliding through the countryside, seeing the changing scenery from your window, a delicious picnic in your handbag, and a beautiful tutu to complete your outfit – utter bliss!

A Night of Elegance: Today, I found myself in London's West End. Oh, darling, the excitement! The theatre lights are sparkling, the air hums with anticipation, and everywhere I look there are stunning dresses, dapper gentlemen, and just a little hint of glamour! I even spotted a few tutus, and one daring lady even wore a fluffy pink one, just like me! I’ve booked myself tickets to see the Royal Ballet tonight – I simply can't miss it! The Royal Ballet is celebrating its 40th Anniversary and has even put on a special production of Swan Lake. Just imagine, those elegant ballerinas gracefully gliding across the stage in beautiful tutus! What a spectacular sight!

To Tutu or Not to Tutu? I say, why not? After all, life is too short to be serious! Throw on a pink tutu, embrace your inner ballerina, and dance your way into happiness! Who knows, perhaps even one day we can make a ballet tutu the most common garment on Earth! Wouldn't that be a vision?

That’s all for today’s post! Keep on spinning and I'll see you all next Tuesday. Until then, don't forget to rock your tutus and spread some sparkle!

Lots of Love,

Emma
