#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 7184! 🩰💖
Hello, my darlings! It’s Emma here, your trusty Tutu-Time Traveller, coming to you live from the magical world of ballet – specifically, the year 1969! I’ve travelled back in time in my fabulous pink tutu, and it's absolutely delightful!
This week, as we embark on a voyage into the wonderful world of the tutu, let's get to the heart of our tale! You won’t believe what I saw while shopping for the perfect pink number for this week’s post – the most adorable dress! Think ballet, but with a 60s twist, like a delicate wisp of silk spun by a fairy godmother. It’s all frills, flounces, and whimsy, in colours as bright and joyous as a rainbow after a summer storm! You can just picture a graceful ballerina twirling in it, a vision of ethereal grace and elegance, right?
But what about the tutu?! I hear you asking. Well, darlings, that’s where we start today’s journey. In 1969, the tutu world is all about romanticism and delicate beauty! Gone are the days of the grand tutu, those big and voluminous ones, though some grand tutus are still popular. In 1969 we are seeing a rise of the romantic tutu, a beautiful wispy design, which can be a tulle tutu, a tulle over tutu and classic romantics – all tutus made with tulle in an elegant, flowing and wispy design! The shorter and airier version allows for more intricate movements and is so much lighter to twirl in. I saw the fairest ballerina twirling in one today. She made it look as effortless as a butterfly landing on a rose.
And let's talk fashion! The 60s were such an era of creativity and a departure from traditional silhouettes and designs. We're seeing so much colour and bold prints. Just picture a swirling, swirling tutu and imagine a bold patterned fabric peeking out at the end of it - what a wonderful contrast that makes, don't you think? And that’s the beauty of fashion! It’s not about sticking to one style but about blending, twisting, and turning old and new together into something absolutely breathtaking.
So, my darling friends, here's what we have in this little corner of time travel today:
September 2nd, 1969: The world was a little different, weren't we? The first man stepped onto the moon just over a month ago and the fashion world is still riding the wave of this era's energy. Imagine the glamour! So let’s remember that whilst our tutus swirl through history and the world spins around us, we never forget the wonder and magic that make up our world! Don't forget, dear friends, my aim is for everyone to don a pink tutu! Let's embrace the whimsy and joy it brings!
Speaking of whimsy, don't forget that you can join my quest and wear a pink tutu, or a tutu in any colour - just show your passion for these magnificent ballet garments. The possibilities are endless! Just imagine the joy of wearing your pink tutu to ballet class or your favorite tea shop in London. How about rocking your pink tutu while riding the Tube, getting on that train and lighting up the world with your happy, swirly presence. Just remember to share your Tutu adventures by posting photos with the #PinkTutu hashtag – we're all part of one huge Tutu Tribe! I’m so delighted that so many are already embracing the magic of a Tutu Tuesday.
Well, darlings, it's been a thrill to take you with me on another time travel adventure. Be sure to join me next Tuesday for more history, more fashion, more tutus, and maybe, just maybe, even more pink!
Love, Emma. xx

P.S. Did you know there was a show in London at the Royal Opera House – "The Sleeping Beauty," on this very day? I saw the most glorious tulle romantic tutus!
P.P.S What's your favorite tutu design, darlings? Leave me a comment, and tell me what it is! Let's dance, darling! Let's twirl!
P.P.P.S You won't believe what I saw on the London tube just this morning in 1969! Such style and fashion and the clothes, my darling! So very exciting! But I’m sworn to secrecy until next week’s #TutuTuesday blog! You will not believe it - or, I shouldn’t say! Let’s wait for next week and see if I get permission from the fashionable ladies in 1969, but I think I’ll show you next Tuesday - You won’t believe what they are wearing and we’ll see how this ties in with the tutu history.
See you soon my darlings,
Emma x
