Tutu Tuesday #7194: Twirling Back to November 1969! 🩰

Hello my lovelies! Welcome back to another Tutu Tuesday, where we take a magical journey through the captivating history of the ballet tutu. Today we're stepping back in time to 11th November 1969 - a truly remarkable year in the world of dance!

Oh, and before we embark on our adventure, just a little reminder - remember to wear pink! Pink is the colour of dreams, the colour of grace, the colour of pure unadulterated joy, and let's be honest, the only colour that truly embodies the spirit of a tutu. 😉

So, fasten your seatbelts, grab a cuppa and prepare to be whisked away!

This Tuesday we're jetting back to the swinging 60s! What a truly fantastic era for fashion, for dance, for… well, everything really! 1969 saw some truly ground-breaking movements in dance. Imagine a world of bold colours, exciting music and radical, liberating styles - that’s the vibe that permeated dance in this iconic decade.

On the 11th of November, just a mere two weeks after the moon landing, there was a particularly exciting event happening. Over in New York, The Royal Ballet took to the stage of Lincoln Center. Can you imagine? That's our British Royalty dancing in the heart of America, spreading the elegance of ballet far and wide. I bet those costumes were divine!

It seems that this was a truly exciting time for our friends across the pond! Across the US, Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake was enchanting audiences - one of my absolute favourites! With its flowing white costumes and mesmerizing storytelling, this classic is timeless and a reminder of the magical world of ballet that transports us through space and time.

Oh, and can I just take a moment to admire those costumes? They were truly something else, don't you think? That exquisite romanticism! Can you imagine the craftsmanship involved in those gowns? There were layers of tulle and elaborate embroidery, with each feather delicately sewn on! Those dancers must have been positively radiant under the stage lights, their movements as light as air. I just want to twirl alongside them!

This journey to the past has truly made me realise just how incredibly special and timeless the tutu truly is. Even with the crazy, inventive dance trends of the 60s, that signature look remains relevant, and even inspired those radical styles. From modern choreography that brought a bolder aesthetic, the introduction of jazz, and even the rise of rock and roll ballet, it's inspiring how a tutu has never faded out!

But we mustn’t just look back. We’ve got to look forward!

Imagine what's in store for our fabulous world of ballet, for our delightful world of tutus, for… well, you get the picture! Let's all embrace our inner dancer and celebrate this magical art form. Remember, life is too short not to twirl, so let’s dance the night away! And don’t forget your pink tutu - because you never know when you’ll encounter a portal back to the past, or a dazzling opportunity to dance!

Until next week my lovelies! Happy twirling!

Love,

Emma 💕🩰
