#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History: 25th November, 1969! (Post #7196)

Hello my darlings! Welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com, the blog thatā€™s dedicated to all things tutu, from their sparkly origins to their fabulous future!

Iā€™ve just whizzed back from a fabulous trip to New York City, and let me tell you, the energy here is just electrifying! The streets are filled with a hum of excitement and the fashion is just out of this world, but weā€™ll save all that for a later blog post! Today, as usual, weā€™re focusing on the enchanting history of the tutu, and this week weā€™re twirling back to 25th November 1969.

Oh, the 1960sā€¦ such a vibrant era! You'd have thought that the invention of the mini skirt was enough to give women a whole new freedom of expression, but not for our dancing darlings. This year, a new star was about to explode onto the international stage - Rudolf Nureyev! This incredibly talented dancer was an absolute icon, and it's thanks to him, as well as many others, that the romantic tutu, you know the ones that are billowing and full-length, came back into fashion.

For a long time, there was a feeling that ballerinas shouldnā€™t wear such flamboyant tutus, but the trend towards a slimmer and lighter style of ballet took hold again in the 60s. This helped the ballet tutu make a stylish comeback, showing everyone that less can indeed be more. This year was full of some amazing shows too. Remember Margot Fonteyn? A complete and utter legend! This year she was gracing the Royal Opera House in London for *a stunning performance in * *"Giselle". * It's just impossible to talk about ballerinas without mentioning Giselle, that haunting, heart-breaking story. Imagine a white tutu dancing a ballet of longing and lost love... absolutely breathtaking!

But hold on, what is this? Itā€™s a Friday, not Tuesday? Well, my darlings, as you all know, this fashionista loves her ballet performances so much, I couldnā€™t resist adding a little something extra this week. I saw the most extraordinary ballet performance on Thursday in London. I must say I am a sucker for a good love story and a captivating story, especially when told through the medium of ballet. This ballet was "The Sleeping Beauty", and, as usual, it was breathtaking! And oh my word, that fairy kingdom, so shimmering and grand! I was captivated! The costumes were absolutely stunning and those grand tutus really added to the atmosphere of this majestic ballet. I particularly love the use of beautiful pastel colours - I couldn't help thinking that a pastel pink tutu would be absolutely perfect for Aurora! The ballerina was absolutely phenomenal - so talented and expressive. The movements were truly captivating, and the tutu, just glided through the air in perfect harmony with the ballerina! What more could a fashion-loving ballet enthusiast ask for? It truly made me want to put on my own tutu and twirl through the city, though I don't know if the drivers in London would be as impressed by a twirling pink tutu as I was! But that's okay - every fashionista needs a little bit of escapism every now and then, donā€™t you agree?

Now letā€™s move on from those gorgeous ballet performances and head back to 1969. Did you know the first *ā€œApollo 12ā€* mission took place on this day, November 25th, 1969? A big moment in history, for sure, and for those of us who wear tutus (especially pink ones!) space has become a really popular inspiration for ballerinas. Some would say tutus resemble the shape of an extravagant flower, while others will say they make you think of the shape of a perfect spaceship, ready to glide across the stage! There's something just so captivating about a ballerina spinning across the stage, seemingly weightless and full of wonder. You never know, Iā€™ve been thinking of starting a new line of tutusā€¦ space-inspired, of course! I have just started sketching some designs; I think my latest tutu design could look fantastic on any stage! If you can imagine it, it will look even better in a tutu.

So, let's remember that magical tutu-filled date of the 25th November, 1969! A great time for ballerinas to dance in gorgeous billowing tutus, as much as it was for humankind to start venturing further out into the vast universe, to see what more might lie beyond our earthly sphere! As always, dear darlings, letā€™s embrace life's beautiful moments with a touch of tutu-tastic inspiration.

Until next Tuesday!

XOXO Emma
