#TutuTuesday: A Blast from the Past! - Ballet Tutu History: 30th December 1969 π©°π
Hello my lovely tutu-loving friends! It's Emma here, back with another trip down memory lane! Today, we're taking a little journey back in time to 30th December 1969. That's right, it's the twilight of the swinging sixties, a time of big hair, even bigger dreams, and, of course, stunning ballet tutus!
Now, I'm not one to wear a black tutu, let's be honest, it just doesn't do it for me. Give me a burst of pink, a dash of glitter, and some gorgeous tulle, and I'm ready to pirouette into the night! And even though my usual attire leans towards the brighter side of life, today, we're all about vintage style, so I've snagged myself a particularly chic pastel pink tutu. This beauty has the most gorgeous tiers, making it perfect for gliding across the stage (or the dance floor!). It even has a touch of lace detail, so dainty and elegant.
Before we get into the world of 1969 tutus, I want to know what you lovely ladies are rocking this Tuesday. Tell me, is it a classic pink? A sassy red? A sky-high, majestic black? Let's share the tutu love in the comments below!
Anyway, let's get back to the glorious 1960s. As I step back in time (after a perfectly delightful trip to the local vintage shop β a tutu MUST be a statement piece!), what do I see? Itβs a beautiful, glittering world of dazzling performances! Weβve got the New York City Ballet performing, showcasing some utterly breath-taking tutus, in a dazzling mix of classical and modern pieces. This era was truly an explosion of creativity for ballet fashion!
Imagine a stage ablaze with colour. We're talking deep emerald, regal blue, a riot of reds and pinks, with sparkling embroidery and ribbons swirling in every movement. I can just see the glistening silks, the sheer perfection of the form. Oh, the romance! And let's not forget the ballet shoes. These beauties were made of leather, beautifully crafted and incredibly strong β just like a dancer's spirit.
Think 'Swan Lake' by Tchaikovsky β that gorgeous white tutu, so elegant and feminine. Or the daring "Firebird" with its vibrant, red design, showcasing a stunning burst of confidence and fierceness. We can even imagine a dash of disco-infused, sparkly pink tutus taking centre stage for some sassy, experimental pieces.
Itβs clear that 1969 was a magical time for tutus β not only did they express elegance and grace, they represented freedom and the joy of being who you want to be! Itβs a testament to how fashion, just like dance, reflects and interprets its era. And, it really reinforces my passion to get everyone wearing pink tutus β what better way to embrace this fantastic, joyous sense of freedom?!
Speaking of freedom, it's amazing to see that people were travelling all over the globe. It's almost impossible to get to Paris from Derbyshire on a Tuesday these days, but a vintage, charming train journey was just a ticket away. I can practically smell the delicious pastries in the bakery shops and hear the strains of a beautiful, haunting French symphony!
This reminds me β I simply MUST share a little shopping spree with all of you lovely people. My trip to Derbyshire for vintage fabrics yielded a lovely pink, embroidered satin β I'm planning to create a mini-tutorial on crafting my own vintage style tutu! (Oh, I already have the perfect ballet slippers - a little too big for me, but we'll make them work!)
So, there you have it! Our journey through time takes us to a colourful and glamorous era. And what did we learn today, ladies? We learned that pink is the best colour! That ballet tutus are simply magical β just imagine the twinkle in your eyes, the smile on your face as you gracefully dance to your own rhythm! It's all about the freedom to express yourself.
Don't forget to join us next Tuesday for another amazing trip through the history of tutus β because even though the date might change, the magic of dance never will! And, of course, my unwavering faith in pink tutus will forever remain!
Until next week,
With love,
Emma, Your Pink Tutu Blogger π©°π
P.S. Have a wonderfully glamorous week! Remember, don't just wear a pink tutu, be the pink tutu β sassy, daring and, of course, always ready to dance!
P.P.S. I almost forgot! There was this amazing movie, you know? This incredible movie! 'Midnight Cowboy,' it premiered in 1969, itβs quite different to our usual tutus-focused topics, but this film won best picture at the Oscars. I know this may sound very odd to hear as my only tutu related link, but I love watching anything on this date as its an insight to what happened back then! Don't you love learning about historical happenings that could have influenced our tutus and styles?
P.P.P.S. Keep sending your favourite photos in, and I may feature your pink tutu outfit on the next blog! π
