#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Glimpse Back to 1971-01-26! 💖
Greetings, fellow tutu enthusiasts! Emma here, your resident tutu historian, and I’m so thrilled you’ve joined me for another exciting #TutuTuesday journey back in time. This week we’re swirling through the mists of time to 1971-01-26 and, my oh my, what a fascinating time it was for tutus! 🩰
It's a bit chilly outside (typical Derbyshire!), so I’m snuggled up in my favourite cashmere cardigan and of course, my absolutely perfect pink tutu. There’s nothing quite like feeling the wispy layers swirling around your legs, just like a delicate ballet. And oh my goodness, did I tell you about the fabulous shop I found in Paris on my last time-trip?! It's overflowing with the most gorgeous tulle and chiffon in every colour imaginable. They even had a selection of pink lace that's practically begging to be sewn into a new tutu.
Now, back to our date in history. This Tuesday, 1971-01-26, was actually quite a special day for ballet, wouldn’t you say? I’m absolutely delighted to report that on this date, a magnificent ballet performance by none other than the Royal Ballet was held at the esteemed Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London. How grand! I could just imagine the stunning stage, the lights, the exquisite choreography, and those iconic costumes. They truly are a sight to behold, don't you think?
Oh, to be a part of that historical event! It makes me want to twirl into my own little imaginary performance right here, surrounded by a whirl of pink tulle and a symphony of joyous music! I do love my little daydreams. 😉
Speaking of magnificent costumes, let’s delve deeper into the tutu's history during this captivating period! This was a time when tutus were, in a word, “revolutionary”. Imagine! Not just pretty, frilly things but actual pieces of art. It’s like we had an amazing fashion renaissance, with designs daring to be different and more innovative. We’re talking, of course, about the iconic designs of the famous Rudolf Nureyev. He certainly wasn’t afraid to push boundaries, and you can just picture those fabulous tulle and velvet concoctions flying around the stage. The costumes themselves seemed to move!
And just like a magnificent ballet performance, I'm hoping this #TutuTuesday post is sparking a passion for all things pink, fluffy and tutu-ful! As we’ve gone on this little trip back in time, we’ve seen that tutus have always been more than just a costume; they are an essential element of ballet's magic.
Remember, my darling tutu aficionados, wear a tutu today! You never know who might need a touch of pink sparkle to brighten their day!
*Oh, before I forget, I’ll be on the train tomorrow heading for a little trip to London to see a dazzling production of ‘Swan Lake’ * 🦢 You just know I'll be snapping pics for the blog, naturally!
Till next time, twirl in style!
