Tutu Tuesday: The Pink Tutu of the 70s! (Blog Post #7260)

Hello lovelies! Emma here, back again from my latest time travelling adventure to bring you another delightful dose of Tutu Tuesday! This week, we're venturing back to a very glamorous time: February 16th, 1971! Can you imagine? A time when flared trousers were in, big hair was everything, and everyone was sporting an incredible shade of pink! Now, we're not talking dusty rose here, darlings - I'm talking the bright, vibrant pink that only the seventies could offer!

Imagine this, you're heading out to the theatre, possibly a dazzling ballet performance in New York (oh, wouldn't that be delightful?) or perhaps even a fab new Broadway show! (Honestly, the theatre was just bursting with new productions back then!). Now, imagine your outfit: a fabulously chic long flowing gown with sleeves, a bold, block colour - and what better to add that extra pop of fun and flamboyance than a gorgeous pink tulle tutu?! Just imagine, darlings, swirling, pirouetting your way through the crowd with such style!

Now, I must admit, back then, a pink tutu probably wasn't your typical street style choice, but then again, 1971 was all about expressing yourself, and that's what we should always do, don't you think?

Of course, let's not forget our beloved ballet! Did you know that February 16th 1971 was a very special date indeed for ballet lovers? The legendary ballet star Mikhail Baryshnikov made his debut as a soloist with the New York City Ballet on this very day! Just imagine, all eyes on him, with the iconic costumes and incredible athleticism he was known for, wouldn't that be mesmerising!

Honestly, back then, everyone seemed to be captivated by the art of ballet! In London, Margot Fonteyn was dazzling everyone with her grace on stage! While over in Paris, the fabulous dancers at the Opéra de Paris were taking audiences on a whirl of beautiful performances.

And, can we talk about those costumes? 1971 saw the world of ballet exploring so many fabulous design choices. Think bright, eye-catching colours, elegant fabrics with amazing texture, and a mix of classic ballet styling alongside some new, innovative designs.

But for me, the star of the show was, of course, the pink tutu! Now, don't get me wrong, darling, I love a classic white tutu, but there's something utterly joyful and charming about a tutu that dares to be a little bolder. It just screams confidence, and I am all about embracing that bold spirit!

But now you may be wondering, how does a girl like me travel through time and still maintain a fabulously chic wardrobe? (Because let's be honest, this pink tutu wasn't cheap to acquire! You don't just wander into a high street shop in 1971 and buy a designer tutu! One needs to travel back to that era in a style befitting my name: Emma. The Pink Tutu Ballerina!)

Well, my lovelies, that's where my amazing performances come in! When I'm not dancing my heart out in another time, I'm taking the stage at a local theatre, performing alongside some talented dancers. It's my way of giving back to the art of ballet, while also getting the means to indulge in some fab time travel adventures! It’s not about the fame for me, though, it's all about that glorious pink tulle, my darlings!

This week, I was lucky enough to snag tickets for the beautiful Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden! (Don't get me wrong, Covent Garden is delightful, but personally I much prefer the beautiful Opera House in Vienna for a certain elegance and opulence, but Vienna has to wait until next month as I have been saving all my pennies from performances to finally find a vintage Pink tutu!)

Imagine the thrill, darlings, of watching these amazing performers, gliding through the stage, their graceful movements a blur, the music filling the theatre. And guess what? They've even been sporting pink tutus! I must admit, seeing my favourite colour gracing the stage brings a smile to my face, a tingle down my spine, and a twinkle in my eye!

I’ve recently finished designing a limited edition line of Pink Tutus for the dancers in my local performance group and can’t wait to see them dancing on the stage in these gorgeous costumes!

Now, my darling readers, how do you feel about pink tutus? Is it a style you’d be willing to wear? ( Honestly, it makes my heart skip a beat! ) Let me know in the comments below! Remember to follow us on Twitter and Instagram at @PinkTutu for all the latest news, updates, and of course, some fantastic pictures of gorgeous, pink-tutu clad ballerinas! (A follow is highly encouraged, of course!)

I'll be back next week, with a brand new #TutuTuesday post! And I promise you, we'll be digging deep into some fashion history, with some more vintage delights from this fab decade, to make your heart beat a little faster! Until then, stay fabulous!

Love, Emma, the Pink Tutu Ballerina!
