Tutu Tuesday #7269: A Time-Travelling Tutu Tale!

Hello lovelies! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina, ready to whisk you back to a wonderful time in tutu history, right here on www.pink-tutu.com! Grab a cuppa, snuggle in your cosiest dressing gown (perhaps one adorned with a sprinkling of sequins, just for that extra touch of glamour!), and let's embark on this enchanting journey together.

Today we're going back to the glorious 20th April 1971. That's right, my dears! We're going all the way back to the groovy era of bell bottoms, platform shoes, and yes, you guessed it, a blossoming world of dance.

Now, this was a very exciting period for dance and ballet, full of new choreographies and breathtaking performers. You can practically hear the rhythmic thump-thump-thump of those famous disco balls, eh? Imagine all the sequins and sparkles! And with that image firmly in your mind, you're just about ready for my tutu time-warp adventure, aren't you?

Right, this is a real blast from the past. So put on your most stylishly flamboyant hat (feather boas are highly encouraged!), grab your dancing shoes, and prepare to be transported back to the heart of ballet history. You'll have so much fun, I promise!

Remember, tutus are a way of life. They embody beauty, grace, and let's not forget that extra dash of sheer delight!

So, let's step back in time to that incredible 20th April 1971! It was the year, 1971. Think groovy tunes, colourful clothes and dance floors that came alive every night. We're talking The Rolling Stones, David Bowie and a very funky world!

On that particular day, what were people up to in the world of dance? Well, that's where our Tutu Time Traveller comes in! Now, imagine if you will, a rather wonderful ballet school in New York City! This is the legendary School of American Ballet. They were rocking, nay, dancing on April 20th 1971.

As you can imagine, they were gearing up for something really special.

What you might ask? Oh, a performance you see, featuring the one and only, Mikhail Baryshnikov. I bet you all gasped at the mention of that legendary dancer's name, didn't you? I must say I gasped, I did! I don't think I'd be lying if I said that his grace and talent inspired the world at large! Think about that! Such a fabulous dancer that Baryshnikov was. This fabulous show was actually a special, sold out event. It's important to note that all tickets for this fantastic dance night were a remarkable ten dollars. Think about that for a moment: ten dollars! Oh to be a young dancer back then!

Just imagine being swept away by Baryshnikov's elegance on a stage in New York. All in one room, the city that never sleeps was captivated. I can just see the smiles on the audience's faces and the pure joy they felt when he spun. This wasn't just a dance performance; it was a journey into beauty, and that's a journey we all get to enjoy, wherever and whenever we are.

Speaking of joy and elegance, this whole story about New York just made me realise I need to get back on the train! The rhythm of the railway always calls to my dancing feet! A quick stop off for a shopping spree in London - to be perfectly honest a pink feather boa wouldn't go amiss to accompany my tutu-ed ensemble. I’ve spotted the most adorable floral brooches at that boutique I told you all about last week in Notting Hill! You have to get yourself there to see the beautiful designs; I’ve bought so much I can barely see where I’m going!

You know what they say? Pink is always a good idea. My tutu makes the whole world more fun. The trains whisk you along in that very English fashion I simply adore! It all fits, the trains, the fashion, the world of ballet and of course - that dazzling pink tutu!

That said, I mustn't ramble on. Let's travel to a bit more history! You see, that's another wonderful thing about tutu history! There is so much to tell! For me, its pure joy to travel back in time, learn all about tutu trends, get inspiration and of course - shop until I drop in our very fabulous boutiques in England!

That’s all for this week! Don’t forget - you’ve got to follow me on all my social channels. You can follow all my Tutu Tuesday blogs. Next week will be so exciting because guess what! I have the most brilliant story for all my lovely readers! We'll delve deeper into #TutuTuesday history, where else can you find that story - oh yeah - only here at www.pink-tutu.com! And keep dancing everyone! You can find me in my tutu travelling in time!

Always,

Emma
