#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - December 21st 1971

#7304

Hello darlings! Itā€™s Emma here, back for another delightful #TutuTuesday journey through the enchanting world of ballet and the exquisite tulle creations that grace the stage. Today, my pink-tutu-clad self has taken a whirl through time, landing right in the heart of 21st December 1971.

The year 1971, my lovelies, was a magical time for ballet. Remember those incredible stage costumes, so full of drama and panache? This is the year we're revisiting in today's post, a year of exquisite, breathtakingly beautiful tutus that make my heart flutter with delight!

The air hums with the anticipation of the holiday season. My heart skips a beat just thinking of all the sparkling performances I'm going to see in London. Can't you just imagine the magnificent costumes, the twinkling lights, the exhilarating rush of music?

I love these train journeys. The scent of freshly brewed tea and the click-clack of the wheels on the tracks - what a fabulous way to travel! A bit of an old-fashioned romantic, that's me!

Imagine me, in my pinkest tutu (I even found one made from this gorgeous shade of magenta that just screams ā€˜ballet!ā€™, I tell you!) watching the snow falling from the train window. Itā€™s just like stepping into one of those magical ballets, all graceful movement and shimmering light.

Letā€™s take a peek into the history of the ballet tutu on this very date!

(Now let's think of specific ballet events in 1971)

1971 was a particularly captivating year for the world of ballet. In London, The Royal Ballet is putting on an absolutely spectacular production of ā€œSwan Lakeā€, and the Royal Opera House is simply dazzling.

If youā€™re lucky enough to catch a performance on December 21st, just remember to keep an eye out for the enchanting choreography of Frederick Ashton, one of the giants of ballet! His grace and vision shine in every performance, making this production even more magical!

Let's rewind just a touch! It's fascinating to me that it was around this very date in 1971 that the renowned Rudolf Nureyev decided to leave the Royal Ballet to pursue a career in America. Now, I know the reasons arenā€™t really a "tea party and fluffy kittens" sort of topic. I prefer not to go into the politics and controversies! But it shows how the world of ballet is always evolving and captivating.

The dance scene at this time is bursting with new talent and stunning new interpretations, with dancers constantly innovating and finding new ways to move the audiences' souls with their art.

And the tutus, darlings! Remember, the tutus in 1971 were becoming lighter and more romantic, the dancers seemingly dancing on air! This was the perfect era for romantic and graceful ballet tutus ā€“ with so much focus on intricate movements.

A lot of ballet tutus of this time had that classic ballet slipper and romantic frills you would expect ā€“ a look thatā€™s not been forgotten. The romantic frills are a delight! All this movement and graceā€¦ I swear, some of the dancers make the tutu look like an actual part of their body, like theyā€™re growing a tutu, itā€™s absolutely magical to watch!

(Talk about the style and trend, fashion & shopping. Emma's passion)

My absolute favourites for 1971 have to be those exquisitely soft and gauzy tulle tutus! The kind that creates an illusion of magic when you see them in the light! These tutus just made me think of ballet performances. Those iconic fluffy ballerinas with the delicate ballet tutusā€¦. They would float on stage with the greatest of ease! Itā€™s like their steps have their own magicā€¦ They almost never look like theyā€™re even touching the floor. It's all grace and lightness and that glorious soft romantic touch!

Think of all those amazing costumes - oh, my darlings! I just have to share that feeling! These beautiful, fluffy ballerinas! Their grace was everything - a beautiful image for a romantic, almost fairytale-esque world. It truly makes one believe in magic.

Speaking of romantic, I went shopping today! Well, one canā€™t always talk about the beauty of tutus without venturing into some amazing, wonderful shopsā€¦ I mean it wouldnā€™t be #TutuTuesday, would it?!

I even got myself a brand-new ballet top for my ballet classes. And letā€™s not forget the ballet shoes! This delightful ballerina has got a whole selection of pastel coloured ones in my dressing table! And I've got my eye on the perfect ballerina pink shoe to complement that magenta tutu!

It was quite the whirlwind, darling, but every #TutuTuesday brings me a step closer to my big dreamā€¦ To encourage everyone to wear a pink tutu. Because there is truly no feeling as joyous as swirling and twirling in a pretty tutu - it just fills one's heart with joy!

So, tell me, my fellow tutu-loving friends, are you planning to visit a ballet this season? Which production is your favourite, or what are you looking forward to seeing? Let's discuss our love for ballet tutus below in the comments! Until next time, keep twirling!
