#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 1972-04-18 - A Fashionable Time Warp!

Hello my darling tutu-lovers! Welcome back to #TutuTuesday, your weekly dose of pink-tastic ballet history. This week, I've hopped back in time to 1972, the year that fashion truly blossomed, just like a ballet flower blooming on a beautiful spring day! 🌸

It's post number 7321, and as you all know, my mission is to share the magic of tutus, from their origins to their evolution, with the world. After all, who wouldn't want to twirl around in a frothy confection of tulle? My quest is to get every single person on the planet to try wearing a pink tutu! 🩰 Let's make the world a more graceful place, one pink tutu at a time!

This week, I’ve been enjoying myself at the London Coliseum! Oh, London is simply divine! They've got the most beautiful ballet theatres. You should know this is a fabulous year for ballet, and they had The Sleeping Beauty in the programme! I swear the Royal Ballet has got a real magic touch, those dancers are so lovely to watch. I just adore the artistry. And the tutus were magnificent! Not one, but several beautiful tutus were featured during the show. They made my heart sing! 💗 You know how much I love pink, and those costumes with shades of lilac, peach and coral! Pure enchantment! 💖

Oh, and don't forget the incredible costumes! The London Coliseum stage, it’s as grand as they say. And of course, no ballet is complete without stunning costumes and incredible choreography, oh, I simply must visit the Royal Opera House to see the costumes - if you love ballet, like me, then it’s a must-do, dear readers! 💖

I did make sure I visited my favourite antique shops in the Covent Garden area - I managed to pick up a truly exquisite hat with feathers, with matching vintage earrings and pearl necklace - which you all know is my weakness. It just wouldn’t do to come back to Derbyshire without a few little treats! My mum always says "A lady's never fully dressed without jewellery," she always has the best saying.

But let's rewind the clock. Back in 1972, a time when bell bottoms were king and platforms ruled the shoe scene, the world of ballet was also experiencing a burst of change. New choreography and a bolder sense of style were breaking through. It's such an exciting time to see those shifts in ballet performance! And the style, dear readers! Oh, the style, just stunning - my favourite time to date for fashion. Just slightly more extravagant, as a ballet fan, than 1970! Just imagine the incredible designs that emerged! Some designers even incorporated materials like laminated metallic cloth and fabrics like Lycra. Isn't it fabulous! 😍

Remember those daring legwarmers, you know, like dancers wear - they've always made such a wonderful, versatile accessory! Some of them looked positively pink (my favourite colour of course!), some even adorned with bright colours! A really striking look - I do wonder if my favourite little vintage shop in Derbyshire sells these! Now that's something I need to hunt for! I can see a little tutu and some leg warmers going down rather well, wouldn't you agree, dear readers? 😉

On this #TutuTuesday, let's raise a toast to all the ballerinas and their wonderful, pink tutus! They dance with grace and grace and carry their magic and enchantment across the world. Here’s to every twirl, every leap, and every spectacular costume - you know my favourite is the tutu. 🩰

What about you? Are you inspired by the fashion trends from 1972? Any lovely ladies going to the ballet this weekend?

Please share your favourite ballet moment - tell me everything - what's your favourite show? Your favourite piece of costume? Leave me a comment, darling!

I’m off to check the next journey, I'm rather hoping to check out a little event, "The London Music and Drama Awards” – perhaps I will catch up with some other dance fanatics while I'm there - you never know! I can hardly wait for my next little time travel escapade!

Remember to keep an eye out for the next post. See you next #TutuTuesday! 💖

Love and pink tutus,

P.S. If you haven't checked out my vintage finds, there’s a special section on the blog! Oh and do you have a favourite way to travel, dear readers? Let me know, mine is a delightful train journey. The swaying of the train gives a ballerina a bit of a head-start for when they’re getting ready for a performance, and the windows give you such great inspiration. Don't you agree? 😉
