#TutuTuesday: A Blast From the Past! - 13th June, 1972

Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu, your one-stop shop for all things tutu, glamorous, and utterly fabulous! Today is a particularly exciting #TutuTuesday because I'm taking us back in time, to a delightful period where tutus were as much a part of the scene as, well, tutus always have been!

This week, my time-travelling adventure brought me to June 13th, 1972, and oh, it was a sight! Now, for the uninitiated (are you sure you haven't been living under a rock?), this was the year that "The Sound of Music" was released in the UK! Can you imagine the joy, the joy of dancing to those whimsical tunes? It was all over the airwaves and everyone was smitten! The costumes, the characters, it was a real inspiration! It just goes to show, sometimes it's the little things that make life magical!

I was whisked away to a quaint ballet class in London, and wouldn't you know it, all the girls were wearing those divine 1970s style tutus, you know the ones – fluffy, airy and all about femininity. Imagine! We're talking billowing chiffon, softest satin, and some perfectly placed feathers! Think romantic, dreamy, and a touch of classic Hollywood. A ballet class filled with pink, blush and pastel shades… I was in heaven!

But speaking of 1972, a whole lot was happening in the world of ballet. Margot Fonteyn was still making waves as the reigning queen of dance. Now, just think, a ballerina as majestic and captivating as she was, twirling across the stage… It’s enough to make your heart leap!

I even found myself sneaking a peek at some incredible performances of "Giselle" and "Swan Lake", and let me tell you, the tutus in those were positively captivating! Imagine billowing layers of tulle swirling around you, catching the light like tiny diamonds! It was a sight to behold!

And let's not forget the Royal Ballet, it was soaring to new heights, pushing the boundaries of classical ballet. They even did something new: they used recorded music in some of their performances, a brave new step for the ballet world!

Speaking of music, can we take a moment to appreciate the timeless appeal of Pink Floyd? 1972 saw the release of "Obscured by Clouds," and although rock 'n' roll might not seem to fit in with the world of ballet, there’s just something so undeniably dreamy and captivating about their music, even when it’s experimental. It feels like a whimsical, artistic expression of tutus in their purest form - free, fluid, and captivating!

And of course, I was completely immersed in the delightful fashion trends of the day. Bell bottoms, flowing blouses, platform shoes - oh my! It was all about a free-spirited look and embrace of comfort. Imagine, my dear readers, a bright pink tutu, complete with delicate feathers and a flowy scarf, layered over a fitted shirt with flowing sleeves, a pair of fabulously fashionable bell bottoms and the perfect platform sandals. Imagine, how simply beautiful this look would have been for those swinging sixties, rocking seventies days!

So, my dear tutu enthusiasts, that's a little peek into the magical world of ballet and fashion in 1972, where pink reigned supreme! As we approach another week, I urge you all to channel your inner dancer, find your own sense of grace, and, most importantly, don a fabulous pink tutu for an instant injection of sunshine and glamour! Don’t forget to show me your TutuTuesday pictures and share them with the community! Don’t forget to share this post, you know I love it!

Oh! You might want to know: my latest favourite dance studio has this wonderful tea room. It has the most gorgeous scones. It’s just by my apartment, and my favourite dance teachers go there. They are both quite brilliant dancers!

Remember to stay fabulous, keep dreaming in pink, and see you next Tuesday for another dose of ballet history!

Yours in pink, Emma
