Tutu Tuesday: #7461 - Back to the 70s! (Pink, of course!)
Hello lovelies! Emma here, back from another fabulous time travel adventure! This week I've hopped on the time-train back to 1974, a magical era when big hair, platform shoes and, yes, the humble tutu, were all the rage! And believe me, tutus back then were a sight to behold! We’re talking a world away from the streamlined, sophisticated designs you see today, although who knows, maybe fashion’s going to make a big, billowing return, just you wait and see! 😉
Anyway, I'm here to tell you all about the amazing world of tutus in 1974, and, of course, it wouldn't be a Tutu Tuesday without a little sprinkle of pink!
Ballet BlissOn this date, 24th December 1974, Christmas Eve was, and still is, a time of pure joy and festive magic. Now, I don't know about you darlings, but I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate Christmas Eve than a beautiful ballet performance! Back then, ballets were HUGE. People were absolutely enthralled by the artistry and grace of classical ballet, so chances are, there were amazing shows happening all over the world! If you had the chance to catch a ballet on this night, it would have been a truly magical Christmas experience. Just imagine the swirling tutus and the beautiful music, filling the air with the spirit of Christmas. I bet you'd be seeing a bit of pink up on stage too, with a generous helping of pink for good measure!
Speaking of pink, what are the 70s without a dash of vibrant colour? Back then, there was so much love for a pop of bright colours in fashion. It’s no surprise that this love for vibrant hues made its way onto the dance floor!
### The Rise of the Romantic Tutu
As we danced our way into the 70s, ballet became ever more romantic. We had incredible dancers like Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn captivating audiences with their extraordinary talent. The tutu design took a leap forward, transforming from the very stiff and flat tutus of the earlier periods into more flowing, billowy masterpieces. Imagine delicate layers of tulle drifting with every pirouette!
But let’s not forget about the pink. My oh my, the pink! They weren't just wearing pink tutus – they were dripping in it! Pink, in all its glory, graced the stages with a touch of femininity and softness. Imagine a world where even the most challenging ballet move becomes graceful and ethereal just with a hint of this beloved shade! Just how the fabulous dance world likes it, wouldn't you agree?
### Tutues beyond the Stage
Beyond the dazzling ballet stage, tutus made a strong comeback in mainstream fashion too! I remember being blown away by the iconic film “The Sound of Music,” featuring a particularly lovely pink tutu moment during the Do-Re-Mi sequence! These scenes sparked a tutu trend all across the world, spreading like wild fire among the fashion savvy set!
For a real vintage vibe, try adding a pink tutu over your favourite pair of bell bottoms or platform boots. A little splash of colour, a little tulle, a little pink, and you'll have the 70s charm flowing off you in no time! But remember, this era had some unusual trends as well. (We're looking at you, platforms! ). So if you go for that 70s look, choose a tutu with layers of soft and delicate tulle – not one too stiff and hard. A gentle wave with your skirt? That’s my favourite part!
Why Tutu Tuesday MattersFor me, the joy of a tutu is so much more than just a piece of fashion! It embodies the sheer joy and excitement of movement, of expressing yourself freely. Just the sight of a tutu sets off a magical feeling of fun, freedom and femininity, a sense of grace and delight, and let's be honest, it's pretty darn cute, too!
This is exactly what my blog, "Pink Tutu," is all about – a platform to share the magic of the tutu and bring the joy and freedom to everyone. No matter who you are, what you look like, or where you're from, I believe there's a tutu for you! And the best part is – there’s one that is just your perfect pink. So don't hesitate – join the #TutuTuesday movement and share your love of the tutu with the world!
We all need a little bit of pink, a little bit of joy, and a whole lot of fabulous tutus in our lives! 😉
And until next Tuesday, happy twirling!
