Tutu Tuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 1975-02-04
Hello, darlings! It’s Emma here, back again for another fabulous foray into the history of our beloved tutus. Today, we’re travelling back in time, and you guessed it, we're going pink!
As you all know, this Tuesday is #TutuTuesday on www.pink-tutu.com, and it’s been such a thrill to share this amazing journey with you! I absolutely love delving into the past, and discovering how the tutu evolved from a humble costume to the iconic symbol of dance it is today! I’m already halfway through my latest time-travel trip to a little boutique tucked away on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris! You’ve no idea what amazing treasures I've found!
1975: A Glimpse into Ballet HistorySo, what was happening in the ballet world on February 4th, 1975? Well, let me tell you, a whole lot was happening! I must confess I’m completely smitten with the fashion from the seventies, but there’s more to discover than just stylish clothes, although I do find those awfully appealing! The ballet world was flourishing, especially in Paris, New York, and London.
London’s Royal Ballet was gearing up for its opening night performance of The Sleeping Beauty. The story of a beautiful princess cursed to a hundred-year slumber just calls out for breathtaking tutus! It’s such a charming ballet; there’s something absolutely delightful about a magical princess in a fluffy pink tutu. They don’t write stories like this anymore.
Tutu Trivia TimeDid you know that the ballet tutu has evolved so much throughout the years? Think of the amazing progression: from the early Roman tutus, or rather "tunic-like" garments, to the grand tutus that dominated the Romantic ballet era! I’m absolutely in love with those romantic ballet tutus, they’re simply sensational with all those frills and frills and more frills. The Sleeping Beauty is just a perfect example of romanticism with its intricate costumes and choreography. I just have to wear that look tomorrow.
On a side note, have you all tried that amazing lavender bath and beauty regime in this era? Well, I have, and I just have to try that on my next trip home to Derbyshire. And you know, my lovely pink tutu-loving audience, there’s also the emergence of modern ballet in this period. A touch of avant-garde flair was emerging, but we’ll definitely delve into that on another day, my dears. It seems my time-travel device is letting me know it’s time to return home for the evening! And yes, there was a dance school for ballerinas! Did you know?
A Fashionable FarewellIt's getting a little chilly outside for bare legs in a pink tutu! Time for some hot tea and maybe some biscuits, or perhaps some delectable pastry? The choice is truly delicious! But anyway, my darlings, it’s time for me to sign off until next week! Remember, stay positive, stay strong, and most importantly, keep on wearing pink tutus! Remember to tell your friends about my site, www.pink-tutu.com ! Have a lovely day. And don't forget, keep on dancing!
