Tutu Tuesday #7474: A Blast From The Past!
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your resident tutu enthusiast, back again for another #TutuTuesday journey through the history of our beloved ballet garment! This week, we're going way back in time – way back to 1975 – can you imagine?! I mean, I am a time traveller, so the idea of such ancient dates doesn't faze me too much.
Today's adventure takes us to London, England. Imagine it – a time when London was teeming with world-renowned ballerinas, their every move, every pirouette, an artistic expression of absolute brilliance! There were two places that everyone would be heading for on the 25th of March 1975. The first was the Royal Opera House, and the second was Covent Garden, with its beautiful theatre building. The Royal Ballet, the National Ballet of England, and the English National Opera, oh my! You couldn't even think about making a trip to London without seeing these magical performances.
Now, back to 1975! While we're here in London, I'm not going to tell you about those ballets. Today, my lovely readers, we are going shopping! Think about it - what would London’s biggest ballet stores have been offering their most discerning clientele on that fine spring day? Would there have been the kind of beautiful tulle options we can choose from nowadays?
Honestly, darlings, I would love to see how tutus were made in the 70s. The fabric would have been heavier – it just had to be! Tutus weren’t quite the fluffy masterpieces we enjoy today. And I do think there was a trend towards tighter, smaller, more structured tutus.
My personal preference, of course, is for those beautiful airy and almost ethereal tulle creations that just float on the stage like a dream. But then, that’s why I’m so happy to have access to all the wonderful modern options that my lovely readers enjoy! We have come so far with tutus since those days. It’s like magic. The evolution is simply astounding!
Remember darlings, tutus are about freedom of movement, beauty, and the expression of elegance! It doesn't matter where you are or when you are – from 1975 to today – tutus remain iconic! That’s the beautiful thing, they haven’t changed that much over the decades. Well, maybe except for some of those glorious tulle fabrics and those pretty sparkles…
Anyway, I have to dash! Time travelling isn’t as simple as getting a train back to Derbyshire from London. The costs involved, darling! Honestly, I spend almost every single penny I earn from performing in shows, but it’s worth it – if not for my beloved readers, then for the wonderful journey. Let me know, how much do you love the tutu?! Do share in the comments. Now, on to more pink!
See you next Tuesday for another fabulous Tutu Tuesday!
XOXO Emma
