#TutuTuesday: A Trip Back to 1975! (Post #7488)
Hello darlings, and welcome back to my little corner of the internet! It's Tutu Tuesday and that means a trip through time, of course! Today we're whizzing back to the fabulous year 1975. Can you imagine, no iPhones, no internet shopping, and definitely no Tiktoks of ballet moves! Shocking!
But I must admit, I'm quite taken with the fashion of this time period. All those glorious flares, bold colours, and funky patterns – it was an exciting era! Especially for the ballerina!
The iconic, knee-length tutu had already firmly established itself in the world of classical ballet by 1975, gracing the stages of famous theatres around the world. Picture a dainty, ethereal princess in a pale pink, feathery tutu – oh so chic! And those elegant ballerinas gracefully pirouetting across the stage – pure artistry! It was a period when ballerinas, like Margot Fonteyn and Natalia Makarova, captivated the world with their graceful performances. It was an era where the artistry of classical ballet flourished.
Speaking of grace and artistry, let's talk about our tutus, shall we? I must admit, I was utterly enthralled by the beautiful, ethereal, wispy tutus that I discovered at a vintage clothing store. I immediately whipped out my credit card and nabbed the most delightful powder blue one with a vintage lace trim – absolutely breathtaking.
However, this lovely little vintage number did need a little "refurbishment." Don't you worry though – it's looking just smashing now! A little bit of a spruce up at a wonderful seamstress I found in Paris last week, and now it's ready to take on the world – or at least Derbyshire!
Now for a quick look at what happened in the world of dance on 1st July 1975:
The American Ballet Theatre celebrated the opening night of "Swan Lake" at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City! Now that is what I call a dream come true! The iconic ballerina, Gelsey Kirkland, was the evening’s captivating "Odette." I absolutely adore Gelsey – she truly captured the essence of the "White Swan." * Swan Lake * is, of course, one of my all-time favourite ballets!
But you know what really puts the “oomph” into a ballerina's day, a fabulous shopping spree, don’t you? On that very same day, in Paris – that chic Parisian style - a new haute couture collection featuring divine creations that perfectly captured the 1970s' vibrant and colourful spirit – was unveiled by a renowned designer. Can you imagine all those luscious colours! It was a real explosion of fashion! Sigh. To think I missed the show and the shopping spree…
I've just booked my train ticket to Paris. Who needs a time machine when there are trains to catch?! I’m going to indulge in a Parisian shopping spree this very weekend! A girl has gotta find those divine 1970s’ style clothing stores. Just you wait until you see my latest buys. Let's get ready to dance in the most fashionable style of the seventies!
Remember darlings, don't forget to embrace the magic of the tutu – a bit of pink here, a little twirl there - it's all about embracing the fun and joyful energy of dance. Until next Tuesday, keep your spirits high and your tutus ready for a good twirl!
See you soon, Emma
P.S - Stay tuned for next week's #TutuTuesday - we’re off to the swinging sixties. Oh, I just know we're gonna love this!
