#TutuTuesday: A Trip Back in Time to August 26th, 1975!
Hello my darlings, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com for another fabulously frivolous #TutuTuesday blog! This week, I've popped my time-travelling tutu on and set the dial for August 26th, 1975 - a rather splendid year for a little sartorial trip down memory lane!
(But first, my dears, did I tell you I finally found the perfect shade of pink? It's a vibrant, almost-neon blush that truly sparkles under the stage lights! I simply must add it to my collection. Oh, the shopping I shall be doing on this trip...!)
Now, let's talk tutus! August 1975 was a fabulous time to be a ballerina, or a tutu-enthusiast, for that matter! This month saw the return of the illustrious Bolshoi Ballet to the grand stage of the Royal Opera House in London! Oh, what a feast for the eyes and the soul! To see those magnificent dancers pirouette and leap, clad in exquisite tutus that billowed with each turn, was pure enchantment.
You see, dears, the 1970s was a rather glamorous era for tutus, in my humble opinion. They were big, bold, and utterly captivating, reminiscent of the golden age of ballet, where the artistry of the movement was intertwined with the opulence of the costume. And oh, those colours! My personal favourites were the vibrant blues, emerald greens, and of course, the lovely shade of pale pink (don't you simply adore a dash of romance? ).
But it wasn't just the Bolshoi stealing the show. The world was in awe of the artistry of dancers like Margot Fonteyn, Natalia Makarova, and Mikhail Baryshnikov! And what were they dancing in? You guessed it! Stunning tutus, with their layers and swishes, reminding the world of the magic that ballet holds.
(My darlings, just the other day I dreamt I was performing at the Royal Opera House myself, dancing alongside these legendary dancers! Can you imagine the thrill? And of course, my tutu would have been the star of the show... )
Speaking of tutus, remember my quest to get everyone in a pink tutu? I have a feeling I found some kindred spirits this trip! My adventures brought me to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London where they had a special exhibition called "The Arts of Fashion". Guess what, darlings? One of the featured dresses was, wait for it, a pink tutu dress! (Of course, they called it a "ballet inspired ensemble" - but I know what I saw!) Pink and graceful! Itโs like the universe is conspiring with me!
While tutus reigned supreme on the stages, even outside of the world of ballet, fashion was embracing a touch of tutu-magic. You could find a bit of that dreamy fluffiness on the streets of London in the form of tutu-inspired skirts or a splash of ballerina flair in the form of halter neck tops. Imagine! Even our casual fashion was reflecting a little bit of that magical world.
My adventures led me further afield this time! To Paris, the city of fashion, where I spotted the hottest Parisian designers incorporating a touch of the tutu in their creations, adding a bit of movement and grace to everything from evening gowns to streetwear. It's no surprise! Tutues are like a dash of fairy dust, they make anything magical, wouldn't you agree?
As my travels wound down, I bid adieu to 1975 with a sense of wonder. I felt the pull of the present, knowing that in a matter of moments, I'd be back in my little flat in Derbyshire, surrounded by sketches and fabric swatches for my latest tutu creations. And you know what, my darlings? My trip gave me a whole new spark of inspiration! Just wait until you see what I have planned!

Emma
