#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 1976-07-20 - Post #7543

Hello my darling Tutu-Lovers! Itā€™s Emma here, your pinkest and most tutu-tastic time traveller. Itā€™s #TutuTuesday and time to dive into the history of our beloved tutus once again! Today, Iā€™m taking us back to 20th July, 1976!

Hold onto your tiaras and prepare to be dazzled, my darlings, because 1976 was a year bursting with tutu-tastic brilliance. The fashion world was aflutter with all things sparkly, and believe you me, tutus were front and centre! You could hardly turn a corner without bumping into someone in a dreamy, frilly creation! I tell you, even the milkman was wearing one!

Before we delve into the tutu-tastic happenings of that very day, allow me to paint a little picture of the fashion landscape for you, my dearest Tutu-Chums.

Imagine the most exquisite pastel shades imaginable: peach, lavender, and of course, pink! Think soft velvet, flowing silk, and whimsical patterns that made the heart sing. It was the era of platform shoes, hot pants, and oh my! Letā€™s not forget the infamous bell bottoms, they were everywhere! This is a time where the fashion rule book was, well, non-existent. It was an explosion of individuality, where women dared to be bold and embrace a kind of fashion freedom like never before. But none of this, my dears, would have been possible without the one true fashion forceā€¦the mighty tutu.

Tutu Triumphant!

Yes, my lovelies, in 1976, tutus became a statement of liberation, an explosion of femininity. They weren't confined to the ballet stage anymore, they were dancing in the streets! Itā€™s a time where a woman in a tutu could turn heads, a sight as stunning as a blooming rose. And did I mention, they were perfect for a good twirl! Why wouldn't they be, they are basically born for that. They gave everyone a sense of confidence and fun ā€“ that kind of joie de vivre that makes everyone smile!

Now, my little swans, letā€™s travel back to the 20th of July, 1976, and see what this day held for the world of tutus.

On this day, right here, right now, a very special performance of ā€œGiselleā€ took place at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. Oh, how it filled my heart with joy. My dear Tutu-Chums, if you havenā€™t seen this ballet, I simply must add it to your bucket list! This particular performance featured the beautiful Margot Fonteyn, a legend of the ballet world! Oh, that graceful swan like movementsā€¦ it was magical. You could see the joy on the faces of the audience! Such emotion and tenderness, I couldnā€™t contain the tears, a real ā€œwaterworksā€ moment, you could say! It was a day where magic was real, the kind that only tutus can create!

As I'm sipping my morning tea (always with a little extra pink sugar, naturally), I canā€™t help but be overwhelmed by the sheer power and magic that surrounds tutus. From their majestic debut on the ballet stage, to the street-style sensation they became in the 70s, they truly continue to bring joy, elegance and a touch of whimsy to every corner of our world.

Just a quick reminder: the Pink Tutu Challenge is still on, darling Tutu-Chums! Yes! This is our chance to embrace that playful spirit and show the world that pink tutus are not just for ballerinas, theyā€™re for everyone, everywhere! Grab your nearest tutu, embrace the joy of being yourself, and share your own Tutu moments with us! #PinkTutu #TutuTuesday

Until next time, my dearest Tutu-Lovers, keep dancing, keep dreaming and keep twirling. Youā€™ll be finding me over on Instagram and TikTok. Don't forget to drop by www.pink-tutu.com to keep up with the latest fashion updates and the greatest ballet shows. Until next week!

And oh, before I forget, I must confess, Iā€™m completely obsessed with vintage shops at the moment, and Iā€™ve just had to grab this darling little pink tutu for myself ā€“ itā€™s 70s perfection! It was love at first sight ā€“ oh, how it just oozes charm! You wouldnā€™t believe the look on the shopkeeperā€™s face when she heard I was off to London for the ballet ā€“ pure disbelief!

Speaking of London, have you ever taken a train to a performance? It is truly delightful! Sitting by the window, watching the scenery whiz past. I even took a little nap before arriving and dreamed of all the amazing tutus that I would see. And just think, imagine if every train journey started with a grand tutu twirl! What a dream. I am hoping that soon enough, all of us will be twirling our way on to train stations. Howā€™s that for a challenge, my little Tutu-Chums?!

So, grab your tickets and letā€™s twirl! Remember, my lovelies, a pink tutu is the key to happiness! See you next #TutuTuesday!

Love & Tutus,

Emma
