#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through 1977! (Post #7572)
Hello darlings! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink-tutu-wearing time traveller, back with another blast from the ballet past! It's #TutuTuesday, and today we're waltzing back to February 8th, 1977, a date brimming with fashion, fabulousness, and of course, tutus!
Travel by Train
Now, I'm no stranger to time-hopping, but I've got to say, the journey this week was an absolute dream! I journeyed through time by steam train, darling, chugging across the English countryside on the Midland Railway! The views were breathtaking, the engine a powerful rumble that somehow just whispered "ballet."
Paris!
Once I reached 1977, I zipped straight to Paris. Why Paris? Because my dears, Paris in the 1970s was THE centre for fashion and ballet, especially when it came to tutus! Parisian ballerinas, oh they were absolutely glamorous, with their silky tulle, soft pastel colours and oh so dramatic designs. I'm talking extravagant and romantic, darling, the epitome of la vie en rose!
An evening of Ballet Perfection
On this very day, in this very year, a new era in ballet opened at the Paris Opera -- and oh how excited I was to experience it! I slipped into a chic little vintage frock (nothing screams 1977 like a bit of disco chic!), my own vibrant pink tutu adding a touch of extra fabulousness.
*The show? * "La Bayadère" by Marius Petipa! A true ballet masterpiece. The costumes? Utterly breathtaking. Think tiers and tiers of pale peach tulle and exquisite hand-painted details - pure romance. It was a night I'll never forget, darling, a symphony of grace, emotion and sheer beauty! I even snagged a gorgeous vintage ballet poster, a reminder of that exquisite evening.
Shopping on the Champs-Elysees
The day after, I headed to the Champs-Elysees. Now, I'm sure you know just how chic that street is - even in 1977, it was just oozing Parisian elegance! I bought myself the most divine beret, perfect for framing the face, and the cutest pair of leather boots. And of course, no Parisian adventure would be complete without a little slight tutut shopping.
A tutu, a statement!
I found this stunning creation in a little boutique - a gorgeous, shimmering silver, it looked like starlight in person. It was completely different to the traditional tulle creations I see now. You see, in the 1970s, they were really going for experimental designs! This tutu, it felt revolutionary!
Tutu Inspiration for you!
Now, you don't need a time machine to create your own 1977 magic! A little bit of pastel, a dash of glitter, a hint of daringly modern – just some ideas for you! Here are some little gems for bringing some 1977 charm to your everyday outfits:
Embrace pastel shades: think soft pinks, buttery yellows, and lavender.
Go for texture: lace, silk, and velvet will add that extra vintage flair.
Don’t be afraid to mix things up: A flowy midi skirt paired with a shimmering, slightly-sparkly top, a touch of vintage jewellery… you’ll be channelling the seventies with every step.
*A little more of Paris and Tutus *
There’s much more I could say about Paris, and tutus in 1977 – it was truly the time for romance and bold fashion! I simply have to return soon. And, speaking of time-travel, darling – next Tuesday I'm going to be telling you all about the amazing ballet world of 1945. Imagine 1940s Hollywood Glamour paired with the delicate dance moves of a world finally recovering from war… Can you imagine?
I can't wait! See you all then, for another episode of #TutuTuesday!
Allons-y!
(And don’t forget, my dears - *Pink tutus for everyone! )*
Love,
Emma xx
