Tutu Tuesday #7584: Back to the Future of Tutus! (1977-05-03)

Oh darling, what a week! Just as I was tucking into a perfectly pink cupcake, the train tickets to 1977 landed on my doormat! It seems I’ve become something of a Time Travelling Tutuist, flitting through the decades in pursuit of fabulous frocks and phenomenal footwear. But worry not, dear readers, I'll always find my way back to the present, to your wonderful pink-tutu-loving hearts.

And where better to start than with a delightful jaunt to the land of the big hair, the bell bottoms, and, my favourite, the TUTU! 1977 was an exciting year, dear reader. The world was dancing to disco beats, sporting those flamboyant flares and shimmering platforms, and everyone, literally everyone, wanted to feel like a prima ballerina.

But the best part? Let's talk about the glorious 1977 tutus! Think fluffy layers, swirling taffeta, and a splash of dazzling sequins – all with a touch of the whimsy and magic that we associate with this era. Imagine stepping out in a tulle confection that tickled your toes and sent you swirling with every move! It’s almost enough to make one want to crank up the Bee Gees, shimmy onto the dance floor and just twirl!

It's such a good thing, though, that I had my notebook and camera ready, snapping away to share this fabulous time warp with you. The tutu styles in 1977? Divine! There was a lovely sense of carefree fun mixed with that timeless, ethereal ballet grace. Forget your classic, rigid tutu styles! We are talking swirling tulle explosions, flowing gossamer creations, and even the occasional touch of glittery, futuristic, space age inspired designs - all perfect for the times.

As always, my trusty pocket watch (oh, don't be so predictable, I always dress in period clothes for my travels – though I do love adding my own personal touches) was my trusty travel companion. Today it led me to one of the most significant dance events of 1977: the "Dance Mania" Festival at Wembley Arena. Now this was a dance explosion! The perfect place to get your fill of everything exciting, energetic and fun – and that includes glorious tutus galore.

And, oh darling! Don't even get me started on the footwear! Remember, a good pair of dancing shoes is a must with every tutu! In this era, there was an array of flat, comfortable, but fabulously exciting dancing shoes that were the ultimate fusion of chic and comfort - a dream for a tutu wearer on the go! I saw so many stylish folks rocking those glittering disco platform shoes - an absolutely stellar sight. A good dancing shoe was crucial because people were dancing for hours and hours - they wanted the style and comfort to keep up!

It was a real blast from the past, darling! Even though time travelling can be exhausting, there’s nothing quite like getting into that period style. It’s almost like stepping into a vintage movie! The dancing, the outfits, and even the smell of freshly brewed coffee (with an actual coffee spoon to go with it) reminded me just how special this period in time truly was.

Back to my darling pink tutu and a cuppa tea, I have a fashion post to write – and hopefully convince you all to ditch those dreary trousers and embrace the fabulousness of the pink tutu, darling!

Remember, lovelies: Keep the tutu dreams alive, and join me next Tuesday for another time-travelling adventure! You can catch me and all my fellow tutu lovers on www.pink-tutu.com. It's your one stop shop for all things pink and all things twirling! Until next Tuesday, my dearest tutu enthusiasts! Keep shining bright, and may your life be as twirly as your tulle!
