#TutuTuesday: A Trip Back to the Glamorous '70s! (Blog Post #7592)

Hello my darling tutu-lovers! Emma here, back from another whirlwind adventure in time, this time landing smack-dab in the groovy '70s! And believe me, this decade was practically made for tutus! Think disco fever, big hair, and glittery, glamorous outfits, all swirling with the magic of dance.

Today, June 28th, 1977, is all about feeling the vibe! Itā€™s a Tuesday, of course, which means we're celebrating all things tutu on this week's #TutuTuesday post. Now, strap yourselves in, darlings, because I've got a whole host of amazing tutu stories and style secrets from this fab decade.

The 70s: A Tutu Paradise

First things first, let's talk about how fantastic tutus were in the 70s! The world was totally embracing the ballet look, from high fashion to everyday life. This was the era of ā€œBarbarellaā€ (and donā€™t we all love a little space-age glamour?)! Imagine floating around in a sleek, futuristic silver tutu, paired with shimmering platform heels and a vibrant pink top. Swoon!

And donā€™t forget, darling, we had the amazing ā€œSaturday Night Fever,ā€ which turned everyone into a dancing queen or king! Think classic black-and-white looks, billowing silk, and bold stripes - tutus definitely added a touch of magic to all the groovy moves.

But it wasn't just about dance. Designers were channeling the tutu's allure into every form of fashion. It was all about fun and femininity, from the short, floaty designs paired with a glamorous sweater to the longer, full-bodied ones adding a touch of whimsical charm to evening dresses. It was all about expressing yourself, and what better way to do that than with a tutu?!

My Tutu-ific '70s Shopping Spree

Of course, I wouldnā€™t be a true Tutu Tuesday enthusiast if I didn't go on a shopping spree! Today, my journey brought me to the heart of London, to the iconic department store, Harrods. Imagine, my dear friends, walking through their vaulted, glittering ceilings, feeling like I was in a dream!

While there, I couldn't resist a quick peek at their luxurious fashion section, and let me tell you, the tutus were EVERYTHING! Weā€™re talking a whimsical collection of feather boas, shimmering sequins, and even some chic, modern takes on the classic ballerina silhouette!

Oh, and you HAVE to check out the footwear, darling! Think sleek platform heels with an oversized flower at the tip - talk about a fashion statement! And let's not forget the incredible selection of glittery tights. I mean, how could any self-respecting 70s fashionista resist a pair in emerald green or electric blue?

My '70s Inspiration

Honestly, I left Harrods feeling absolutely inspired. The '70s weren't just about dance and fashion, but also about personal expression, embracing femininity, and enjoying a touch of whimsy! I felt the joy of a classic tutu blended with a modern twist and a hint of rock and roll!

Now, letā€™s move on to some of my personal favourites from the 70s. My journey through the annals of dance history led me to an incredible performance at the Royal Opera House, and guess who graced the stage? The one and only Margot Fonteyn! The legendary ballerina, oh, her movements were absolutely captivating. Even as I sit here in my little studio flat, writing this blog post, the sheer grace of her every step sends chills down my spine. The passion of that performance still makes me feel excited.

Speaking of incredible dance, this is also the year that The Nutcracker, one of my favourite ballets, premiered at the Bolshoi Theatre. It was a breathtaking display of choreography, colour, and passion, showcasing the world of dance in all its glory. The magic of ballet is just so powerful, isn't it?

And of course, I'm not leaving out my other beloved passion ā€“ fashion. The 70s were all about big, bold prints, flowing silhouettes, and, you guessed it, tutus! I mean, it wouldnā€™t be a #TutuTuesday post without me trying on some fabulous fashion!

Let's take a peek at what's making a comeback from the 70s in todayā€™s world. Those cute, ruffled little pink numbers from this era, paired with a high-waisted pair of denim jeans are making a strong fashion comeback right now, especially with a white oversized t-shirt. Oh, and how about the amazing platforms?! If you havenā€™t jumped back on the bandwagon yet, darling, you really need to try some. Theyā€™re fabulous with any outfit! And if you really want to capture the vibe, why not add a long-sleeved sparkly top or an oversized knitted cardigan?

Tutus Forever: My #TutuTuesday Challenge

As we draw to a close, my dearest tutu lovers, let's remember that the magic of the 70s still shines through. Letā€™s make it a mission to add a touch of '70s magic to our own lives! Try slipping on a tutu and going for a spin to your favourite '70s tune - trust me, it will transform your whole day.

So, Iā€™ve got a little #TutuTuesday challenge for you this week. Find a photo of you in your favourite 70s inspired tutu outfit and share it online using #TutuTuesday70s! I want to see the magic you bring to this fantastic decadeā€™s look.

That's all for now, darlings! Donā€™t forget, the power of a pink tutu is timeless ā€“ so keep twirling, keep sparkling, and let your inner dancing queen shine through!

Lots of love and twirls,

Emma xx
