Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu, your one-stop shop for all things tulle, twirling, and fabulousness. I'm your bubbly blogger, Emma, and this week we're venturing back in time to a gloriously glamorous era!

It's Tuesday, which means it's time for a bit of Ballet Tutu History! Today we're swirling back to 1977-09-20, a date packed with possibilities! Let's grab our most fabulous pink tutus and prepare for a trip to a time where ballet reigned supreme!

Oh, and by the way, did I tell you? This is my 7604th blog post! 🤭 You might think that's a lot, but every time I share a bit of tutu-filled magic, I know I'm spreading a bit more joy and inspiring a few more twirls. And who doesn't love that?

Now, let's hop back in my trusty time machine - and this week it's the Orient Express. Yes, I know! This is my new favourite mode of transportation for these jaunts into history. It's all about glamour and luxury, much like my darling tutus, wouldn't you say?

Back to 1977!

London is bustling with energy - the city has a vibrant, electrifying buzz! This era is known for its punk and disco influences, with flares, platform boots, and sparkly dresses. But amidst all this, the beauty of ballet is truly shining!

You can catch the stars of the Royal Ballet strutting their stuff in iconic shows like "Giselle" and "The Nutcracker" at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, or even be transported to faraway lands in "Sleeping Beauty". My, oh my, isn't that a lovely idea?

But the magic doesn't stop there! It's a golden age for the Royal Ballet School. The budding young dancers of this prestigious school are twirling and leaping in perfect harmony. They are truly the next generation of ballerinas, gracing the world with their incredible talent.

As for me? Well, I can't resist joining in! A trip to London simply isn't complete without a visit to a grand ballet class! Imagine - my pink tutu shimmering as I learn graceful movements and intricate steps alongside aspiring young ballerinas. You bet your bottom dollar I'm there!

Speaking of tutus, what's a ballet aficionado to do with all those gorgeous gowns? Well, in 1977, London has the perfect solution: A spectacular, colourful, dazzling shop called Harrods! A paradise for tutus and fashion, this grand department store boasts a stunning selection of ballet attire! From pristine white tutus with delicate embroidery to fluffy, layered pink ones, the variety is truly awe-inspiring! Imagine the possibilities! A rainbow of ballet bliss just waiting to be explored!

But it's not all about tutus! There are plenty of fashionable gems for a girly girl like me to explore! I'm simply in love with the fashion of 1977! A bit of punk chic here, a dash of disco there, and a hint of romantic floral motifs sprinkled throughout - oh darling, it's just divine!

And what better way to show off these lovely new ensembles than at a glamorous evening event? Let's imagine, a grand gathering at the Dorchester Hotel - the height of luxury and sophistication! There are cocktails, dancing, and elegant conversations… And I'm there, a shimmering pink tutu dancing amongst the London glitterati! It's a fairytale come true!

Okay, let's switch gears for a moment and chat about something truly magnificent. Can we talk about ballet productions in this era?

Let's focus on "Swan Lake." This iconic masterpiece, with its haunting music, elegant choreography, and intricate costumes, is always a crowd-pleaser! Seeing it performed by the Royal Ballet, with the iconic Tchaikovsky score ringing out, is truly a sight to behold. A graceful ballet masterpiece! The beautiful tutus! Oh, I must visit! I have been so fortunate to see so many performances over the decades. But there is just something about the tutus of this era. I can almost picture them swirling gracefully through the air... ✨

Remember my dear friends: A pink tutu can make you feel beautiful and bold!

Why not channel this glamorous era for a fantastic DIY ballet-inspired outfit? Throw on your favourite pink tutu (it's all about those fluffy layers and swirling grace!), team it with some glamorous jewellery, and a splash of colour with some bold eye makeup.

Let's create a magical world where every day is #TutuTuesday! 💕
