#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post #7620: A Blast from the Past, January 10th, 1978! 🩰💖
Hello darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet where we celebrate the history of tutus! This week, we're stepping back in time to the 10th of January, 1978. I know what you're thinking: "Emma, the 70s? How exciting!" 😉
Don't worry, my dears, I'm here to make history fun. We're going to explore a time when disco was the beat, bell bottoms were the norm, and… well, let's just say the fashion wasn't exactly on point with today's sleek and chic tutu styles, wink, wink.
Now, let's journey back to London. Imagine cobbled streets, iconic red double-decker buses, and the charming scent of afternoon tea! But on this day in 1978, the biggest highlight would be The Royal Ballet's performance of "La Fille Mal Gardée"! Talk about a timeless classic, right? Just a few years later, this iconic performance even made it to the big screen in a filmed version.
What was happening in ballet world at the time? Well, we're looking at a period when traditionalism in ballet was giving way to more contemporary movements. Some ballet lovers still adored the grand ballets with intricate tutus and sweeping sets, while others gravitated toward more abstract forms of dance with minimal or even no tutus at all.
Remember that fabulous ballet "Le Corsaire?" You'll be surprised to learn that it had a special premiere back in 1978 - it even featured a brand new production design. Talk about exciting! There was also the emergence of more avant-garde companies, some breaking all the "rules" when it came to tutus and dance moves! Can you imagine?
What about tutus? Well, my sweet darlings, let's be honest. The 70s weren't exactly known for their fabulous fashion choices, cough platform shoes cough. However, within the confines of ballet, the tutus still reigned supreme. Think graceful, long romantic tutus, the kind you might find swirling around in the background of your favourite old Hollywood films. I do adore a timeless classical look, don’t you?
Now, before I go off on a tutu-tangled journey down the rabbit hole, let's talk about our own pink tutus for just a moment! 💖 How much do I adore this gorgeous shade of pink? Don't even ask! This time travel adventure wouldn't be possible without my perfectly-pink ballerina attire. I just love the way it twirls and sparkles - a perfect match for any historical ballet! And, speaking of travelling, I absolutely must tell you all about my grand train trip today. I mean, have you ever been in the observation car of a train on its way to the city? It's practically like being on a little stage for the world!
So, to wrap up this week's blast from the past, what can we learn from our tutu-fied journey to 1978? Even when fashion might be… shall we say interesting * (it’s okay to smile - I know!), ballet remains the elegant, captivating world we love! It's about beautiful moves, stunning costumes, and most of all, a captivating story, shared through the grace of movement. It truly never goes out of style, not even with a bell-bottom tutu - yikes! wink, wink
I'll leave you all to dream about your favorite ballerinas in classic tutus - and maybe even try out a vintage-inspired style for a modern twist! As for me, I'll be back next Tuesday with another journey through time. Oh, and don't forget, we always encourage you to post a photo of your pink tutu on our website! 💖
Until next time, my lovelies! Remember, the world looks so much better in a pink tutu.
Much love,
Emma www.pink-tutu.com
