#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Blast from the Past!
Welcome back, Tutu-Lovers! It's me, your favourite pink-loving ballerina, Emma, and this is #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History blog number 7635! 🩰💖 Today, we're taking a trip through time, back to 25th April 1978, a date steeped in tutu-tastic history!
This week, I travelled back to… well, I can't reveal my destination! But let me tell you, it was a truly glorious place, where ballet truly blossomed, much like the pink peonies I wore on my hair this week! 🌸
Now, let's get into the fascinating world of tutu history. 1978 was a very special year for ballet! Just imagine, 1978, a time when we could buy a pair of shoes for £5! (You’d never see a bargain like that today!). I found this gorgeous little boutique right next to the ballet theatre - so fashionable! And the lady in the shop said that, back in 1978, people just weren't wearing tutus on a day-to-day basis. "Well, what a missed opportunity," I thought! Imagine the world filled with pink tutus... it’s certainly what I aim to achieve!
A Royal Performance!
I was lucky enough to see a Royal Ballet performance at Covent Garden on 25th April 1978. They had just staged The Sleeping Beauty in the Royal Opera House, a real crowd-pleaser back then and even more stunning today. Did you know that Tchaikovsky himself said The Sleeping Beauty was one of his best ballets? I totally agree with him - the tutus were a triumph of style! And imagine, that year in 1978, it would’ve been just over 100 years since The Sleeping Beauty first graced the stage at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, 1890! That's over a century of beautiful ballet, just waiting for you to see it. ✨
Fashionable Trends
Speaking of ballet, tutus aren’t the only thing I’m looking out for in my travels - you know I'm mad for fashion! While I was there, the trendiest look was definitely bell-bottoms, and let's just say that some were far better than others... 😅 But it's incredible to see how fashion has evolved, yet we always come back to those classic tutu styles! It's like a magical circle of fabulous fashion!
Travel Tales
It wasn't all ballet and tutus! I rode a double-decker bus all around the city and took in the sights - and oh my, there were some pretty magnificent department stores! You'd never find such luxurious and amazing collections on your high street! Oh, and did I mention I was travelling by train this week? What's a trip through time without a romantic train journey? It truly makes you feel like you’ve stepped straight into one of those vintage movies. 🚃
Pink Power!
One thing that struck me was how even back then, people knew that pink was the colour of the future. I mean, they were absolutely right! It's the ultimate colour - the embodiment of joy, elegance, and whimsy. A true representation of what I call Pink Power. Don't believe me? Just take a look at those beautiful tutu ribbons! All shades of pink - the more, the merrier!
So, there you have it! My glimpse into the fascinating world of 1978. And, of course, we mustn’t forget those fantastic tutus, which still bring joy to people’s hearts today. Whether you’re a passionate ballet fan, or just a lover of pink tutus, let’s remember the history, appreciate the art, and always strive to make the world a little bit more colourful! 💕
*That's all for today! Until next Tuesday, remember to rock those tutus and live life with pink-tastic flair! * 💖
