Tutu Tuesday #7647: Back to the 70s, Baby!
Hey there, Tutu Lovers! Itās Emma, your resident pink tutu-clad time traveller, and this Tuesday, Iām taking us back to July 18th, 1978! Ooh, the 70s! Itās the era of disco, bell bottoms, and of course, fabulous ballet tutus!
Tutu Trends in the Late 70s
In 1978, tutus were as much a part of fashion as they were a part of ballet. While onstage, the classical, romantic tutu still held its ground, but offstage, dancers (and fashionistas) embraced the more modern, fun, and free-spirited styles of the decade. Think soft, flowing fabrics, delicate floral patterns, and the iconic layered look of tutus cascading down in beautiful tiers. The idea was to achieve that whimsical fairy effect without feeling confined.
Paris: A Tutu Haven
This week, Iām whisked away to Paris! Oh, darling, Paris! Thereās just something magical about a trip to the City of Lights. And as itās summer, there are tutus everywhere! I just have to try them all! The fashion scene in 1978 Paris is bursting with bold colors, quirky patterns, and the most divine tutus you can imagine!
For instance, imagine yourself on the Left Bank, strolling along the Seine. You'd see young ladies sporting dreamy floral print tutus paired with vibrant blouses or chunky sweaters. The layering element was everything, darling, so I bet you even saw people styling their tutus over denim jumpsuits or billowing peasant blouses, pure perfection!
Tutu Fashion of 1978: My Take
Don't be fooled by the simplistic appearance of the 1978 tutus! Those flowing lines and easy fabrics required an artist's eye to truly make them pop. To achieve that āeffortlessly chicā 70s vibe, you needed a unique mix of texture, color, and styling that just screamed "individuality," "artistic expression," and āI can dance!ā
Of course, when Iām time travelling I canāt just watch, Iāve gotta participate! In 1978 Paris I managed to get myself to a show! I was in absolute heaven. The dancers twirling with their dreamy layers, and the audience enthralled by their moves! The energy was incredible! Oh la la, what a spectacle!
Back to the Future: A Blast from the Past
So, dear Tutu Lovers, as you look around your own city or town, think about how far tutu fashion has come! The 70s embraced a sense of freedom and a joyful love of color that has paved the way for our current vibrant tutu fashion world. But when it comes to finding that special "something," it's still about finding that spark and expression that says "this is me!" And that's the true beauty of wearing a tutu!
Thatās it for Tutu Tuesday this week! Now, donāt forget to browse the site for some vintage 70s tutu inspiration! And, oh, donāt be shy! Until next time, happy tutu-ing! ~Emma
P.S. Did you know that on this very day in 1978, a landmark movie premiered? Thatās right, Grease! Iām getting ready to put on a disco inspired tutu this weekend to see this classic in the cinema! Let me know if you plan to join me and how youāre going to wear your tutu. Remember, a tutu can add the perfect oomph to any occasion, darling!
