Tutu Tuesday #7663: A Time Travel Through Tutu Time - November 7th, 1978
Greetings, fellow tutu enthusiasts! It's your favourite time traveller and pink tutu aficionado, Emma, back with another installment of #TutuTuesday! Today, we're whisking ourselves back to the fabulous 1970s - a decade of disco fever, bell bottoms, and oh-so-stylish tutus.
Buckle up, darlings, because today, we're going on a trip to…New York City!
Yes, that's right, my dears, the Big Apple, where dreams are made of… and ballet tutus, apparently! 😉
Now, I must confess, my time travel plans haven't always gone perfectly smooth. Just last week, I accidentally ended up in a vintage clothes swap meet instead of the Met Gala. I mean, vintage clothes are fab, but not exactly what I was aiming for, especially in a vintage sequined hotpants. Let's just say it was a bit of a sticky situation for my precious tutu!
Luckily, this time, I'm on track! And boy oh boy, what a thrilling trip this is! I've found myself smack-dab in the heart of New York City, surrounded by the energy of a city that never sleeps - and that just happens to love ballet, too!
We're heading to Lincoln Center tonight, darlings, for a performance by none other than the world-renowned American Ballet Theatre! I’ve snagged tickets for “Giselle," a classic of the Romantic era - and rumour has it, there's even going to be a brand new production! (Honestly, I'm starting to get excited just thinking about it, my darlings! Just picture a perfectly fluffy pink tutu… ah!)
Before I get too lost in a tutu-daydream, let's talk about the historical significance of this special date: November 7th, 1978. Now, I've been researching my little tutu-tastic heart out and found some rather fascinating things…
On this very date, a groundbreaking ballet performance took place at the New York State Theatre - the world premiere of a new version of “The Nutcracker"! Yes, you read that right, darlings, this year is witnessing the debut of a new take on the classic festive tale, full of dazzling dancing and, undoubtedly, fabulous costumes! This isn't just any performance, my darlings; this is the creation of one of the most sought-after choreographers of the era: the incredible Mikhail Baryshnikov. This brilliant choreographer is renowned for his innovative work and unique stage vision. Imagine the intricate and beautiful tutu creations for his "Nutcracker" - I can just picture them already!
The performance featured legendary ballet dancers of the time, including Baryshnikov himself! Now, let me tell you, darlings, Baryshnikov's skills are legendary. He was, and still is, a powerhouse, a maestro, a king of the stage - the ultimate tutu-worthy icon! To see this new production would be truly a tutu-ific experience!
It's moments like these, darlings, where I just feel truly grateful to have my magical time travel tutu! Who wouldn't want to see the world's best dancers performing under the brilliant light of New York City? Especially if it involves a fluffy pink tutu! 😉
So, my dears, keep your eyes peeled for those exciting “Nutcracker” tutus, maybe a few inspired by those beautiful Victorian Romantic gowns worn in "Giselle", and, of course, for that perfectly glamorous New York City ballet atmosphere!
Outfit inspiration, anyone?
Speaking of that glamorous New York City scene, imagine the perfect New York City tutu look: A stunning black velvet jumpsuit adorned with a sparkling silver brooch. Now, add a billowing chiffon skirt for a touch of fairytale glamour, but the pièce de résistance has to be a big, beautiful tutu! (And obviously, it's going to be pink, just like my favourite.)
To truly make a statement, throw on a pair of sparkly heeled pumps and, of course, the ultimate accessory for every tutu lover: a perfectly chic hatbox. (Remember to pack a beautiful tutu or two inside just in case!)
Now, I better off I go. I have a performance to catch - oh, I just love these magical nights! Until next time, dears, stay fabulous, keep your dreams tutu-ific, and never, ever stop dancing!
Yours in pink tutus,
Emma
