Tutu Tuesday: #7681 - A Trip to 1979 - The Year the Tutu Got Real!

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad time-travelling blogger, Emma, here, back with another sparkling installment of your weekly Ballet Tutu History dose! This week, we're going back in time - hold on tight, because it's a wild ride - to the 13th of March, 1979!

I simply adore stepping back in time and seeing how the tutu has evolved - it's a real ballet fashionista's dream, honestly! Today, we're whisked back to the 70s, a time of change, disco, and yes, brilliant tutus!

I know what you're thinking: "1979, tutus? Emma, what on earth could be so interesting about a tutu back then?" But trust me, dear readers, the 70s were a vibrant era for tutu-wear.

The train journey to 1979 was quite an adventure, I must say! We took a journey through the British countryside, past quaint villages and fields of blossoming daffodils. The carriages were quite plush with their velvet seats and delicate floral patterns, a welcome change from the modern-day trains with their hard plastic and constant announcements. Of course, my gorgeous pink tutu stood out, a whirlwind of loveliness amidst the more subdued tones of the 70s attire!

Upon my arrival, I ventured straight to a local dance school, its exterior glimmering with the promise of pirouettes and plies! I have to admit, the dancing itself was pretty incredible! Ballet was a true art form at the time. So elegant, so expressive, so magical! There were the classical ballerinas with their crisp, precise movements, but also modern dancers who took tutus to a new, expressive level.

Oh, and don't even get me started on the costumes! Let's just say, it was the era of bold statement pieces! Imagine tutus in shimmering metallics, a burst of vibrant colours - you name it, it was in a tutu that night!

And the most striking thing I observed? The tutu wasn't just for the professional dancer. It had truly captured the hearts and imaginations of women all over.

Think of it: in 1979, a vibrant tutu wasn't just a stage costume โ€“ it was a fashion statement. Think sparkly skirts, twirling around discos and dance clubs, maybe even the odd pink one or two - yes, the tutu truly made a splash into everyday wear!

Just imagine strutting through the bustling streets, feeling the wind in your hair, a touch of glamour and confidence flowing from you like a sparkling ballet. Ah, that 70s charm... sighs

Speaking of glamorous events, I couldn't possibly leave 1979 without seeing a performance at the legendary Royal Opera House. And believe me, it was magnificent. A whirlwind of breathtaking ballet, a flurry of movement and music. I found myself transfixed by the grace of the ballerinas, their tulle flowing like a cloud around them, creating stories with every leap, every pirouette. It truly was a spectacular journey through the power of dance and the beauty of the tutu.

As the night wore on and the last notes of music faded, I found myself standing in a little cafe in Covent Garden. The warm aroma of freshly baked bread filled the air as I savored a delicious cup of tea, a cup of something so familiar, yet steeped in the atmosphere of a bygone era.

From the grand ballet to the bustling streets of 1979, one thing is clear - the tutu has always been about expressing yourself, your beauty, your inner strength. Whether on a stage, at a party, or just for a stroll in the park, the tutu can make you feel like you can achieve anything, with just a dash of playful magic sprinkled in.

So, darlings, what's your favourite thing about 1979 tutus? Share your thoughts below! Don't forget to hop over to www.pink-tutu.com next Tuesday for another exciting time-traveling tutu adventure.

Until then, keep twirling!

Emma

P.S. Remember, it's not just a tutu. It's a statement, it's a celebration, it's you! Let your tutu tell your story!
